Is it just me or does the truck seem to drive smoother when you hold traction control for 5 seconds and it stays off. It seems to shift smoother and even the 2012 vibrating is either not there or is lessened. I am going to drive to work with it off tomorrow to see.

If it is off and driving on the road will it damage the truck at all of those functions are disabled?

It's not just you. I posted about this the other day. I have the 2.7 and with the Trac off the engine doesn't seem to have to work as hard. The best way I can describe it is with Trac all on (normal) it feels like I am towing something or have extra weight.

Maybe it is something with the '12s. Dyno may not show anything, at full throttle I don't see a difference. I was beginning to think that maybe something is wrong with mine and the brakes are dragging or something.

I agree with Vulcan. The truck feels heavy. Not the way a truck usually feels in 2wd mode. Also think it might be the braking problem I posted previous. I just woke up and headed to work for 0345 so will test it out again.

My old mazdaspeed 6 was like that too. I was able to drive faster and shifts were smoother once the tcs was off. Never had a problem and did like 60k miles like that. I just got into work and drove with I off on highway and it drove so much nicer. Shifted smoother

You sit there and hold the button down every time you start the truck?

I'd like to opt-in to the traction control functions instead of opt-out. But the insurance apes will likely chime in and blab about how I'll get rolled for it if I crash and cause property/bodily damage.

It takes 3 seconds. Plus u let the truck warm up a minute or so before u go anyways. Any mv let it run fir a minute. Just a habit

Placebo effect. Dyno and Track results, then we'll talk. Traction control does *nothing* until wheel slip occurs.

The traction control system samples the rate at which each wheel is spinning, the yaw rate of the vehicle, and the angle of the steering wheel. It does this 24 times a second for each sensor. The system does not interfere with normal engine operations unless it thinks a skid is going to occur (VSC) or if wheel slippage is occurring (TRAC).

I have spent hours documenting its behavior and comparing notes with the TIS and even consulted Toyota on the subject as well.

I have to agree with other posters, that the placebo effect is what's going in here.

Well either way, I will keep turning it off most times. It feels like it drives better and that is what really matters. I had a Ranger with open rear end, an F150 with real LSD, and a few cars without traction control so I think I can handle the danger.

    This

turning it off just greatly reduces the sensitivity of the system

Why do you turn yours off all the time?
