so lastnight i was peacefully sleeping when i was woken up by a guy telling me my truck just got hit. Unfortunately this guy was not playing a prank on me. I walk out and this guy is being arrested for drinking and driving. Cop takes down my info, takes pictures of my truck and gives me a sheet with other driver's info on it. He tells me case number and info wont be released for 7 to 10 business days. at about 2 in the morning Everybody leaves, street is cleaned up, and i'm left with a busted up tacoma. Drivers side bed is f*cked, leaf pack is f*cked, shock mount is bent, tail light gone, rear bumper done, and cab is dented due to bed shifting forward. Tried finding any damage to frame but none. Hopefully body shop will find more wrong with it. To top this story off i'm currently out processing out of the military and will be moving to missouri in 10 days. State farm gave me a rental but no body shop is opend till monday. So right now im just left in the dark. My question is if they total my truck will be able to get my camper, rims, tires, and touchscreen back so i can put it on a new tacoma?...maybe fj lol....

I'm going to say yes. You will be able to get your property from the truck. I had a similar experience where my car was hit while parked somehow they managed to roll it up the sidewalk an onto it's side. Anyway car was totaled insurance told me where the car was so I could make arrangements to pick up anything I had in the car. I took my subs amps stereo everything.

More than likely if it is total damage , they will pay whatever the truck is worth at the time it got hit. So it really depends how old or new your truck is , sometimes the insurance wont consider aftermarket parts like radios or accessories to the amount they pay. Hope this gives an idea somewhat ! good luck

Pics? They will fix up to 80% of the retail value of the truck. If it is totaled, you'll be able to get your personal property without any issues.

You have to look at your policy to determine how the company will compensate you if it's totalled.
If they will include the value of your aftermarket parts-Then you'll need to work with them to be able to take them off. It all depends on your policy/company tho.....

I'm not a body guy but I doubt that's totaled.

Insurance should cover it - I'm sitting here wincing because almost the exact same thing happened to my wife's old prius several years back.

Regardless, at least you have the satisfaction of knowing that this asshat got arrested. In my case, the perpetrator's vehicle was still mobile, so he just drove away. We didn't find out until my wife went out to go to work the next morning. Only thing useful about calling the cops was getting a case number for the insurance claim, otherwise they did nothing - and actually told me they were going to do nothing.

You can get a diminished value appraisal after the repairs are done and request that money from his insurance. You'll probably want to talk to a lawyer if you want to go that route.

Definitely not totalled. In the long run the truck's value may be diminished a little bit due to the accident, but it won't really matter if you keep the truck long term.

    ***Update***
State farm just wrote me a check for $6500. The adjuster suggests i bring it to a shop to get the frame checked out. Have to wait to get truck fixed to determine diminished value.

Just another question...the cab is damaged from the bed being pushed into....on the report it says i need a new L Cab Corner Panel---$388 . I'm lookin at the cab and all i see is one piece...how does my corner panel get replaced??? or how is my cab going to be fixed?...

I don't think that is going to be near enough to cover the damage, but that's just me. Make sure you don't sign off on anything.

The $6500 is the preliminary estimate. There will be a supplement of damages once the truck is at the body shop, disassembled and frame damage measured.
