Spare Tire placement

If you increase your wheel and tire size to greater than a 31" tire then the new size will most likely not fit in the undermount stock location.

Where or how do you mount these 33" + spare tires externally?

If you simply throw it in your bed that certianly limits your payload area should the need arise to use it.

 

Pretty much, its the cost of having bigger tires.

 

My 285 fits under the bed in the stock location. You basically cut off the tabs that go "around" the spare tire. Here's a link to some pictures of how:

That is an excellent link but that trick wont work on my 09. Those brackets are attached to hold the rear leaf springs. There is also a bracket that holds the exhaust in place about an inch away from my stock tire placement.

This is probably what I am going to do when I get to that point.

 

here is my n-fab carrier with my old wheels, it holds the new 17's with no problem. it slides on the factory rails. no problems with it yet.

A one plus size 265/70-17 barely fits up there in a '09.
Anything bigger than that and there will probably will be an issue.

 

I like the idea it sits right in your bedrails like that. No drilling or cutting into the bed that way. The only issue I would have is my tonneau cover will no longer fit if I stick a 33 up on that thing. Guess I may be selling that T cover here soon then.

I think that will work, Dave. I was looking at doing that to mine. It's just two little tabs that stick down to align the tire. I'm pretty sure when I measured mine that a 33 would fit.


Keep this in mind.....there is really no need to get the same tire for a spare, unless you just want to. If you do, you're gonna need to find an 18" wheel for the spare. I have already come to grips with the fact that, if I have a flat on the front, I will be taking a wheel off of the back, installing it on the front and using the spare on the back.

 

i never was a fan of keeping the spare in the stock location, but need all the bed space there is.

Q: anyone ever relocate the spare inside to the extended cab? now, what's available is the "access cab" and it would seem with the seats pulled there would be ample room for gear.
