The local nerd a gamestop doesn't even know what torque is, Let alone how to change a vehicles oil.

Diesel tacos aren't here because our government is ghey about the environment. They think a diesel is going to somehow magically raise the temp. in Antarctica and cause a hairline crack in an iceberg, thus breaking a chunk off and giving a whale a booboo on the head.

If our tacos had a diesel option, they would put any trucks mpg's to shame. Lets not compare apples to oranges here.

Where? I just returned from Germany (six years, many vacations in neighboring countries) and did not see an overwhelming number of diesels. At most, I'd say no more than half the new cars sold are diesels, and that only because gasoline prices are high (government taxes & duties) with diesel fuel cheaper (government subsidies), along with diesel vehicles often more fuel efficient. Most older cars and performance cars are still gasoline.

That said, few really seem to enjoy driving those diesel vehicles, perhaps as a result of being forced into it by the governments. Nevertheless, those vehicles do get the job done, mostly since driving in Europe is vastly different than here (generally shorter distances, often slower speeds, smaller roads & parking spaces, etc).

Not a gotdang thing. After you challenged me I googled "diesel autos europe" and what I found was apparently 40% of autos produced in Europe are diesel powered. Surprise to me.

Diesels don't have the instant acceleration, slow to accelerate, but good at slow speeds. Diesels are good for heavy trucks and for taxis, and there's a lot of taxis in Europe.

Not so sure I agree with you on that. Older diesels yeah, but a lot of new diesels get up and go pretty quick.

Well that just proves it that oranges are heavier than apples.

So that means that Toyota's are better than fords (Found On Road Dead).

diesle is so slow it won (may still be winning) lemans for a few years a few years ago by audi, and i got raped buy a d-max the other day with a bed full of concrete stakes/ladder rack and utility boxes. d-max is the worst diesle out there too in my opinion.

what the hell are you guys talking about slow? reffering to tractors?

the only bad experience i've had with diesel was changing my brother's clutch on his cummins. nv5600=450-500#s t-case=100+#s new clutch and flywheel shipping weight 115#s. . . . . what a bisnatch that was

we travel to paris germany and alsace at least once a year sometimes more to visit family and vacation. almost every vehicle i hear see and drive or get driven in is a diesel at least in the country's mentioned i believe the percentage of diesels to be higher than 50%

maybe i'm wrong but, my family is actually european and not many cars are gas powered even according to them.

You get at a light beside me with the Mack and I will show you slow ;)..

YES, Mr.Government has stuck their noses cleanly up Diesels a$$ BUT they have managed to get us better mpg's ...less they leave the $$$ of DEF alone...

If you want to see Toyota diesels go buy the July/August 4WD Toyota Owners magazine and look at what they bring to the Kuwait "table" or read anything about Toyotas "down under"....

WE spoiled Americans let UNCLE direct how & why our cars/trucks are built...I need my a/c; power everything, automatic trans, hubs, wipers, lights and push button start.....:( :p

Diesels will stay around for a long time, transportation has no choice;LNG and propane can not compete while hybrid is tried it will never defeat POWA...

And to break your hearts,my 2012 MACK does NOT spew black smoke the stack is as clean as day 1:confused: DEF really works ;)

yeah diesels most definitely don't accelerate slowly .

Only downside to the performance IMO is the lack of revs.

Isuzu used to sell 4-cyl diesels in the US. Never got a niche. So maybe the new generation of diesels that are strong and clean enough can find that niche?

A friend of mine has two early 80s Isuzu pickups. 4 cyl diesel, 5 speed manual. No turbos, not sure of the HP, but slow as hell. However, they get a consistent 40+ MPG, don't smoke, and require next to no maintenance beyond oil, oil filter, air filter, fuel filter.

They are 30 years old. I refuse to believe that we do not possess the technology to produce a mid size truck with 4WD, crew cab, 175HP+ diesel engine that will get 28MPG or more AND pass US emissions standards. Think of how far cars have come in 30 years! It is completely possible, but the oil companies do not want us to have them. And the oil companies can buy any politician they want. It's social engineering. The working class will drive what they can afford - compact to midsize commuter cars that drive up the automakers' CAFE (Corporate Average Fuel Economy), the rich folks will drive what they want....and pay twice what they should in fuel.

A 4-cyl diesel, a six-cyl diesel can meet EPA standards for autos and light trucks, there are a lot of them out there. I guess the problem is not enough people want them. I don't want a diesel in my truck. I need an engine that can start at -20 real fast, diesels don't do that.

Who cares how fast they start, just as long as they do. It gets down to -50 here and there's lots of people driving diesels, -20 is balmy

    LOL!

here in snowland, we do have diesels, and they all start like any other cars. even at -30 deg celcius.

you are exactly the reason why we don't have access to diesels for most cars in america.
