whoah, this one has blown up too. Here's my perhaps unwelcome take. As someone who grew up in the absolute sticks and later moved to Cali- thus having been around people with strong views on both sides of the whole gay marriage thing, I still scratch my head about why people make such a big deal about this. I've got straight friends and gay friends. Many have partners, houses, and commmunities they live in. Big deal. Its their life to live. Not mine. I could care less what they do. So whether they get to marry or not seems to be a non-issue. There's a lot of people regardless of their sexual preference who are either stupid, hooked on drugs and so on who probably shouldn't get married. But that's not my call or issue nor something I really spend nights concerned about.

As far as the show... who watches beauty pageants anymore anyway? They're all dumb as bricks.

Picking and choosing quotes and selections from the Bible without studying and understanding its context - historical, social and religious - is not what makes a Christian. God told the Jews to annihilate every living thing in villages in Judea, this is old testament. So you think God and the Lord say that's OK? the Bible is often overly simplified when in fact it is one of the earliest books that taught mankind not only who to put their faith in, but how and why. It gave the Jews a roadmap on how to live their lives when there was no other. I do not believe the Bible is perfect, but if studied, it has wonderful things to offer man.

I suppose the issue with this subject is similar to a lot of other pressing concerns these days, which is that there is a gray area where religious morality is made the basis behind the disapproval of certain actions- like gay marriage. If you're a religious person and disapprove of someone or a group of people because it goes against your beliefs, that's fine. Its your freedom and choice to do so. The problem is that religious morals do not run the country nor have a place in making laws. So in my opinion, decisions such as these should be based on purely legal terms and nothing more. That's about as generic as I can get.

It's not my religion - I don't think I was the one that brought it up - I just "don't condone or support gay marriage". It's not very complicated and I don't feel compelled to defend "why" any more than I do to explain why I like pistachio ice cream. I have as much a right to reject the concept as those have to support it. Hey, it's America. But all of sudden you become a "gay basher", etc. All I can say is "tough shit", I vote too.

That's fine. There's likely a lot of things I agree with that you disagree with and vise-versa, which is again- perfectly OK.

The problem is that we are linking LEGAL and MARRIAGE. They should be seperate. Seperate them and problem solved.

I should be able to marry anyone i want. If i want to have a marriage to my chair, I can. Will it have any legally binding ability, NO.

I should also be able to enter into a civil union with any person I want. If I want to pool resources and have them as my caretaker, receive benifits, etc., then I should have that legal right. It is a business decision. marriage has NOTHING to do with it.

lack of morals is what will destroy our country, not sexual affiliation. you make it sound like gays are evil and out to destroy your way of life. In reality, they just want to live their lives, its the anti gay folk who are actual out to destroy THEM. you are entitled to your beliefs and you are entitled to make them known to whoever you talk to. but you are not entitled to force someone else into living by those beliefs.

you can reject them all you want on a personal level. you can hate them with every fiber of your being. but you cant control or interfere in their lives no matter how "wrong" you think they are.

none of us are. doesn't mean i wont judge people, because i will and do. but judging and controlling are two different things. i have no problem with judgemental people, i have problems with controlling people

    nothing wrong with that

The bible says that all sins are equal. a man is not suppose to lay with another man. but a man is also not suppose to have sex outside of marriage. having pre marital sex is just as much as a sin as two dudes having sex in the eyes of the Lord. A sin is a sin. period. anyone who has sinned in any way has offended God just as much as gay people have.

i'm pretty sure i saw you guys on Springer a while back.... :p

Jesus teaches tolerance. he hung out with whores and muggers and every other form of degenerate out there. he showed them what was right and wrong but he never tried to make anyone's life miserable if they didn't follow his teachings. As i said, i dont agree with the gay lifestyle but i'm not gonna try to make someone else miserable just because i "dont agree" with what they're doing.

In the slave days doctors claimed that blacks were physiologically different (inferior) than whites. this mentality spread through slave owners and was the only way they were able to justify they way they treated them. That is essentially what you are doing here. by saying they are physically different than you is a way to put them on a different lower level. they are people. exactly like you and me except they are attracted to the same sex. other than that there is no difference (except as a general rule they have much better bodies and are better groomed than i am). As human being why should they not enjoy the same rights as you and i?

Another thing that bothers me is the argument "the sanctity of marriage needs to be preserved". believe me, there is nothing sacred about marriage anymore. some people do it just for tax purposes. the fact taht the divorce rate is 50% and rising means that there is nothing sacred left for most couples anymore

Hotness... hmmm. think I'll pass. I for one do not like women that are all powdered up. Lots of southern women caked themselves in makeup when I was growing up, so whenever I see women that look like her, its kind of a major turn-off. Then again, I shouldn't be commenting on her since I'm married!

u tubby irish whore...haha. we briefly talked about this at the meet friday night and since i dont have anyone that i answer to, all of the religious mubmojumbo doesnt hold any ground to me. at the same time though, i respect peoples rights to have their religion and all, but the "right and wrong" from those religions shouldnt be pressed into laws that will govern people that are christian, jewish, islamic, agnostic, or athiest. everyone that wants gay marriage banned only has the religious aspects to try to back up their opinions on it and they shouldnt be taken into consideration for a law that holds anyone to any sort of statutes

If he had any shot of defending the point that he made his decision based on her intelligence, perhaps he should've refrained from hurling insults at her. What a dumbass.

...this guy even called her the "C" word on his blog man:mad:-the point I wanted to make was that she obviously had NO right to her own belief on this matter. Hell, HE asked HER! HE brought it up. Talk about a setup. I suppose this is "retribution" huh? She's a sort of sacrificial lamb for all the oppressed gays out there. Oh and can someone please tell me why they have a gay guy judging attributes on the very gender he has absolutely ZERO interest in? Give me a break.

Exactly. Hell, some hetero couples can't have kids because they're sterile, but they aren't persecuted or mocked or put down. If anything, they're a money maker for the medical industry.

As for the divorce rate... Yeah, if we heteros can suffer through marriage and divorce, why can't everyone experience that wonderful sensation?

I suppose a law saying you can't have pistachio ice cream because you're, say, over 50, would be ok then? Just as discriminating, and it's not going to make pistachio ice cream go away. What would be better would be to just shut the fuck up and let you eat whatever flavor ice cream you want. Same with marriage or civil unions as far as taxes, inheritance, medical rights, health insurance, etc. I mean damn! My wife and I are having a HELL of a time keeping our 4 year old "normal" hetero marriage together. Right now it's mostly only working because neither one of us can afford the expenses of living separately: individual rent/mortgage, electric/gas/phone/internet/tv bills, child support, day care, income taxes.... I could go on and on. So for now, it makes more sense for us to stay together even if we hate each other. Now, WHY for fuck sake can't a happy gay/lesbian couple that've been together for many more years than us not get those same financial, health, and personal benefits?

If we're going to say a guy can't marry a guy, and a woman can't marry a women why not say a man can't marry *that* woman or a woman can't marry *that* man? Stop marriages that'll never work out, or that aren't mutually benficial while we're at it? You're young blond bimbo? Oh, well you can't marry this 80 yr old billionaire that's on his death bed because we all know you're doing it just for the money. Seriously might as well do arranged marriages with the best matched couples to benefit the species as a whole if we're going to start limiting who can be married or get the benefits of it.

This gets me too. "Gays are different." boo hoo hoo. Cry me a fucking river. I don't see anyone saying white can't marry asian or black or latino. And they all have subtle differences in bone structure, skin pigment, genetic-specific diseases. But I don't see people saying latinos shouldn't be married. Blacks were slaves and fought for freedom and equal rights, and now have plans and programs just for them.... *cough*affirmative action*cough* I don't see similar things for gays/lesbians. Just laws negatively affecting them.

And as for the sanctity of marriage.... Yeah... What a crock. How many adulterers out there are hetero? How many religions don't allow devorce, and yet how many devorces are there? If you're religious and feel some sort of sanctity in being married and live by the rules of that then fine. But how many people just want the financial benefits because they can barely afford to get by without them? Or it would be easier with those benefits?

interesting discussion so far and i think i would be smart to just stay out of this one... but one observation i thought i would share...

nothing against you or your gay friends but i find it interesting considering your stance on homosexuality and religion that you would choose homosexuals to be the ones who watch out for your kids' religious upbringing.

i also always find it interesting to see gays active in the catholic church.
