    The table is about 3x5, rolls up to about the same size as my camp chair. I'll bring it. The shelter is sort of a pain to set up but is better than cooking in the rain. Debating on bringing it....

    Departure angle is about 12" lower now by my estimate. I've seen people drag those racks when pulling in and out of parking lots (they usually have a bit of an incline)

    I can photoshop a rock in to cover it :cool: Or just photoshop Ben out all together.

    Mine is a stove, grill and skillet in one. Doesn't burn super hot but it gets the job done.

    It has just two burners on it. It doesn't have a built in grill or skillet. You have to put them over the top of the burns. I also have two smaller single burner stoves which are great for coffee..i dont drink it but would bring it if wanted.

    Ben was moving Ali this afternoon and noticed a lot of smoke in the air to the west of his location on I-15. He was wondering if maybe the source of the smoke was from a fire in the Magruder area.

    I've been looking on inciweb.org and there are a few fires in that general direction that could be the source of the smoke he saw. And there is a fire just north the magruder. Its being called the Salamander fire because it is on Salamander Ridge. Its about 200 acres in size. Pretty small so far. It was first reported on 7/30. Lat: 45.651 Lon: -114.868

    On the map it looks like the fire is a couple of miles and a couple of ridges over from the road. The inciweb report mentions the magruder, saying "the popular magruder road corridor remains open and there are no road/trail closures at this time".

    Great stuff. Google Earth is amazing.

    Do you see Magruder Crossing on your maps. It is where the road crosses the Selway river, I'm thinking we might try heading up the Selway (FS6223) a few miles north if we have time. There are a couple of campgrounds (Indian Creek 10 mi.) and Paradise at the end of the road ~20 mi. Should be spectaular along the river there.

    Maybe a good spot to camp Tuesday night? That leaves a little more driving for Wednesday but it doesn't look like there are many camps past that point. With a larger group we may be better off to stay a little deeper in the woods, the closer we get to civilization again the busier the camps will be and the harder it will be for us to find a spot that we can all settle into.

    I've been on that section, well, at least on the east side of nez perce pass, and its not very good pavement. :eek: Lets just say that ben may drag his bumper extention in a few spots on that "pavement". :rofl:

    Are you going to drive highway 12 between Lewiston and Lolo?

    Do you remember where you stopped to fill up with gas after we did the lolo motorway last year. That is the Powell Ranger District headquarters. On the opposite side of the highway (on the north side) is the entrance to the lolo motorway. It is marked Parachute Hill Rd.

    Maybe they had a truckload of asphalt leftover from another project and thought they'd dump it there :notsure: Or could be for erosion control in the area. Is it steep there? Water in the area? Could have been cheaper to pave it then to keep filling in washouts each year.
    There's a few roads like that around the state...just cruising along on dirt and all of a sudden a patch of ancient pavement pops up.
