Yeah I really hope it works out. This thing is equipped with the best photography equipment available, it's gonna send back some epic pictures.

If you're a DirecTV subscriber (with HD option), you can watch NASA Select's coverage on 346.

I was amazed by the number of people who are hanging out at Ames. It's a huge party atmosphere. They have a huge inflatable screen to show the landing coverage on. I'd go over there but home seems a bit warmer at the moment :D

I have wondered why they chose to do the EDL the way they have. I mean if you look back, the most successful landings were Spirit & Opportunity and they arrived in a giant balloon device that just bounced for a bit then out they came. Compare that to the 7 minutes of terror, and that whole "Epic FAIL" thing seems too close for comfort.

I hope my NASA friends aren't reading this. I want this to succeed but damn, the EDL just seems so close to the edge.

this thing is the size of a small SUV so the balloon thing won't work according to NASA.

Communcations take 7 hours to go from mars to earth..so it will land...we won't get communcation that there was a successful landing till 7 hours later I believe it was...so actually..if they are saying projected landing...they won't know for sure until the morning.
