By the way, The dealer always used the oem filter but not the last time. Maybe they ran out of stock that particular day and I was in a rush!

I'm not gonna keep saying the same thing, if you believe it OK, if you don't, OK as well.

Your words not mine. that clap clap clap, to anyone with "ABOVE AVERAGE MECHANICING" as you so well put it would realize that sounds like METAL parts making contact that shouldnt be, a simple scope in the cylinders would have proven that, and possibly saved you that great big ole hole you got now.

I just hope you can take a lesson from this and maybe next time stop immediately.

About the big hole. Someone in another thread fixed the engine already making the CLAP CLAP noise and paid almost 3000$. TO FIX IT!!!

I would anyway go and get a used engine, I don't trust in repaired ones.

I'm not saying that it didn't happen. Scooters idea that Toyota has a habit of buying the cheapest oil filters is complete BS. My first Toyota was a 67 Model and I've never seen them use anything but Toyota OEM Parts at any Dealership.

What is disturbing about the pictures is the cooked appearance around what looks like the crank shaft bearings.

This may have been going on for a period of time before it actually failed. It looks like baked on caked up oil sludge in those areas. It could just be the pictures. The rest of the engine looks clean and no sign sludge at all.

After you get the liquid cleaned up, and left with the stain.....spray it down with Easy Off Oven Cleaner. Let it set per the time on the can directions for your oven. Then rinse off with a hose. Should take care of it.

    Yep, I saw that too.

OP: Did you get any oil change reciepts from the previous owner? I've heard a few stories of people letting things go to 10K miles between services and
having to motor blow up. Modern engines don't do well with that.

why does everybody argue with the op on a thread he posted in an effort to make us aware of a possible problem? i dont think it was started in an effort to knock our "bullet proof" 1gr's and some of ya act like he himself is trying to sabotage yours. . . . wtf

i have never heard of this problem in the real world. i HAVE seen other cases on here when something happens and the dealer says "oil pump problem". im personally going to start pricing aisin (or whoever makes them now) oil pumps so that i may have one on hand in case my motor ever starts shrieking at me, hell i might even put one on at 100k just in case.

or maybe i should just argue with the op on his knowlege of the 1gr, or oil filters, or oil, or when exactly i should have shut it off. . . . . .take the damn info for what its worth, if its worthless to you, help someone decide on the color of his wheels or something

True and things to take from OP posts are.
1 Do your own maintenance with quality oil and parts
2 do your own maintenance with quality oil and parts
    3 etc etc etc ....
    :D
I am still curious what went wrong but again oil pump was not a culprit it was one of the first things to get destroyed by something
Maybe it was sudge that plugged the picup line maybe it was junky fram or maybe crankshaft bolt got lose. We will find out when op takes engine a part. I believe in his skills so lets grab popcorn and wait :p

I lived in Miami a few years and I met a few folks who For some reason believed they were smarter than the manufacturer and would use straight 50 weight oil or heavier oil than what was recommended by the manufacturer - this was supposedly good for the engine due to the hot conditions????

over The course of many miles it could concivably blow a pump. OP said that it was dealer maintained so that's out. Bottom line is that stuff fails. Maybe assembly of the pump or engine -- shit happens even under the best QC pratices which IMO Toyota is good at.

    Did the engine burn oil?

Big thanks to the OP for posting

It is good that he posted this info. There are a lot of unknowns at this point. The oil around the crank bearing seats looks burned badly, also on the crank counter weights. This is just a visual from the posted pictures so not definitive at all.

The oil pumps are fairly well bullet proof as has been stated above several times ( two inter-meshed gears ) pretty hard to tear these up. The pump more than likely was pushing enough pressure as he never had an oil light come on. That however doesn't mean that it was getting oil at all of the locations it should have. It appears from the pictures that the crank bearings and or rod bearings were starving for oil and burned slowly. If it was sludge the rest of the engine would not be as clean as it is.

The first place I would look is in the valve covers to see what is in there if there is sludge it would be in the valve covers for sure.

Yes I do have all receipts. He seems to have done oil changes in 8K miles interval average.

For the record, I use mobil 1 0w-40 on my homemade oil changes to the 2009 c300 mercedes benz and I change the oil every 10k miles and the engine is still strong. Dealer recommended changes every 13k though

I know I had to turn it off. I did though, when the truck started making that noise I pull over my car, called a hauling company and towed the damn thing to my house in orlando, 250 miles away from the place.

When the truck came, I decided to turn it on and let it idle for about 1 minute until techstream get something, it didn't and the engine blew. I had a chance to put a oil pan under it to get the must of the oil but I already cleaned the rest anyway.

I'll get a new engine this week. for 2k plus 800$ labor, once this engine is out I will post pictures of it and try to see the most I can in the inside. The oil filter seemed to be good already.
