    Hope ya feel better. :D

Might make you feel better knowing a guy at work told me his Dad wants to sell a older Miller TIG welder for $350. Said he's retiring and downsizing his shop.

Yeah me too. I just don't know if I want to buy another welder and find the room to store it. Plus trying to learn another type, which isn't going to be very easy. Would be nice to build aluminum bumpers though...hmmm

Yeah, no kidding. There's another one on there now for $200. I think it may be the guy that bought the other one trying to make a profit. lol

Yes I am. Well I started out in school for cabinet making and got a job through the instructor. After a while I was asked to move into the office and do drafting and went to school for that. While I was in drafting I met a now friend of mine that was a medic in town and it sounded kinda cool to do. I heard all the war stories and all that and found out I could make double what I was making then, so I signed up and got my EMT. The rest is history from there, been doing this for 17 yrs. Went back to paramedic school in 98.

It's a good career, working for a govt service I don't really have to worry about my job when the economy takes a dump and people start losing jobs. People are always going to be sick and healthcare is a great field to be in. Granted your not going to get rich doing this. But, going to work and sitting there some days and not running a call and getting paid for it is really nice. I can guarantee that will never happen in Houston though, lol

The service I work for is out in the country so we don't have the call volume of the larger cities. It's also nice as hell going to work and having 2 days off after a shift. It can suck when you are up that whole 24 hrs and spend the next day sleeping though. But overall if I could do it again, I wouldn't change a thing. I love my job. :D

depends on position (i.e patrol, sherriff, state trooper. etc.) i think i rememebr seeing a national average for a patrol officer is around 50k. not sure though game wardens make some good money. one of my former mangers had a nephew that was a GW for 15 years and make 120k a year. so good pay is out there

and you dont have to NOT go to school, i took all my basics, then stepped out till i figured what i REALLY wanted

Well I guess you might not want to do this then. lol It's not bad, you get used to it and then you talk about all the cool stupid shit people will do. I still get pumped up for a good trauma call. We do all of our own extrication so it's fun getting to cut cars to pieces. Fire department where I work is volunteer so they don't get to have any fun with our toys.

Learn welding and fabrication and bring your ass to the southeast cause no one makes bumpers, sliders, and armor around here. You could possible make a mint.

How much you make depends on how diverse you are in what you do. Location also plays a part in it. If you make the next best thing I guess it wouldn't matter where you are if everyone wants it. Lifestyle wise, I can have a bigger house here than I can in Houston for a lot less money. Or, moderate house with a lot of land.

    <-------right there.

I could have bought a house across from my parents a year ago 5,000 sq ft on the water (river/lake) for 200k. You won't find that in Houston at least not one you can move right in to.

Don't mean to interrupt ya'll but I'm kinda in the same situation as Kase. Just getting my basics done and then I was looking into EMT/firefighter work either for the Navy for the semi-free schooling or going to A&M to get a degree in that.

Or say fuck it and go fly the Osprey :p

In your opinion what's the most difficult thing about your job?

But that sound's good. If I knew how to weld, I'd be doing that for cash right now.

There ya go. How you succeed in what you do is up to you. Don't forget there is also The Ocean Corp in Houston that teaches underwater welding too. $$$

That's where the money/danger comes in.

They can make a whole bunch of money in a couple hours. But it's dangerous.

I've looked into that a little myself :p
