In-bed tool box mounting

I am buying a crossover style tool box for my 08 tacoma this week, and I am not willing to drill holes in my new truck. The toolbox comes with jhooks but I am wondering if anyone has had any luck mounting boxes with the j-hooks? The tool box has holes on either end in the bottom for the j-bolts to go through and mount to something on the floor but I do not see anything on the floor to mount to. I was thinking about maybe redrilling the box on the sides and mounting it to the bed rails but that doesnt seem very stable for me, especially with the weight of all my tools suspended by them. Im certain someone out there must have a better idea, or way of doing this.

 

did you put 2 j hooks per side?

I drilled a hole in each side on the bottom of the metal rail that the adjustable tie downs go on. I did the same by the tail gate so I can slide the box down and use my fishing rod holders when I back up to the water. I never had a problem with one j hook on each side and I run it pretty hard down to the river with a couple hundred pounds of tools in it.

 

thanks for all your help guys, Im new to this forum, and although I normally stick more local type forums I can tell I am going to spend a lot of time here. Thanks again. As soon as i get home from work I am going to pick up those hooks. and I am going to put 2 per side just because i can. i would rather put more than i need than have the box slide around when im wheelin.

Here is a pic of my box installed. Wasn't too difficult. Did it in about 20 minutes by myself. Also cut up some rubber at work, and made a mat for inside the box. Added the TRD touch with some card board scraps and some old red paint that was kicking around the mill where I work.

Over the weekend I also put in aftermarket 6x9's and instead of using the taco tunes mounts, I made my own... Have to get some pics next time the doors are apart which shouldnt be too far away as i have already started running the wires for an amp going under the passenger seat for the 6x9's in the front doors.

 

oh yeah. 402$ cdn after tax for the box. It was half price. and the 3 black circles are what is left of the big ugly red DeeZee Logo. I didnt want to leave the holes open as water would leak in and get my tools wet.
