Have you tried pricing them? You'll see why no one runs them.

Man that looks awesome! Noise bothersome? My Duratracs look and perform so superbly, but damn on hiway trips when you want to visit the hum gets old, especially after 40k miles. KM2 cookie cutters are on the short list.

5thToy & Fiveology: Those look great!

I don't mind the hum of my KM2's, and I couldn't be happier with the 255's! Trimmed a bit with the Dremmel and everything appears to be well.

Actually they are fairly quiet. Windows down you can't hear them at all. Windows up with the stereo turned down you can hear them a bit.

New KM2's are much quieter then Duratracs with 40k on them..... thats what I just had.

Every tire will get louder as the miles go on though.

    5th Toy and Fiveology --

    Very nice results.

I notice you guys are both AT (as I am).

I assume you didn't regear (or did I miss that?)

I'm reading through various forums and articles trying to determine if I want to wait for the $ to go with taller gears or just run stock gears with 255/85 r16s.

Please keep us posted on your daily/wheeling if ya don't mind!

My truck is a short-commute DD, but I am planning (long term) an "overland" style build. (I won't go hog wild with spare gas tanks, lion taming gear, solar panels and safari fare, but I am going to build it out.)

I just don't know if I'll like tall ass tires with the stock gears and AT.

Find someone local running them and take it for a test drive. If your in a region with hills and mountains without re-gearing youll not be so happy if you drive aggressively like me.

I don't find it that bad at all, I was honestly expecting a more noticeable drop in power. My last truck was a 500+ HP Cummins Dodge, so I am used to having plenty of power whenever I want it.

Here is my problem with regearing for this tire size. I don't think 4.10s are worth the money for the small drop over stock gears, and I think 4.56s would be too low for how I use my truck. I think somewhere around a 4.30 ratio would be just about perfect for this size tire and my use, just don't know if that ratio is available for my axles.

    Hi all, first post here.

Whew! read every post here on this thread and it's been most informative.
You guys gave me as many answers as questions.

My 2012 is due in next week and the first mod will be these 255 85 16's along with some sliders.

I had to special order the 6 speed so it's taking some time to get. I think I'll like the manual with these tires.

Just got back from talking with my local chain tire store (Les Schwab) and talked with them about lifting my Tacoma with either the leveling kit (1 1/2-2" or 3" Rev Tec. (I am also looking at the 5100's for the front and AAL's for the rear as well.)

In talking with the person who does the lift kits at Schwab he said their kits also come with a 1" differential drop. The Tech stated that they have had no problems or issues with vibrations in the drive line and the Mod pretty much handles as factory. I want that.

    Questions I have are....

Will the differential drop work as advertised? Some say it doesn't work?
I don't want undue wear on a new truck.

Any here use the 3" Rev Tec to know how it performs on the road?

Will I just come out ahead if I go 5100's and AAL?

    Opinions appreciated....

    Super Thanks!!

The diff drop causes the front of your diff to be lower by 1". so more oil in the lowered section of the diff = less oil at your pinion bearing. Could lead to premature bearing failure.

I run a spacer lift with these tires, Readylift. If I did it again there would be no spacer lift installed on my truck, the ride seems a bit stiffer than stock.

Just installed some 255/85 r16 bfg km2's today. Not that much loss in power and they are surprisingly quiet. No rubbing issues so far either.

Looks good Sam you should be fine with 3" lift. The only place I rub is very little on the front mud flap bumps when at full lock and bounce it hard (3" complete OME lift). I lost around 1 MPG with them but Hwy hills suck (& we have a lot of them around here), I have to drop it in 3rd for some & 4th for the rest to maintain speed. All in all I love them, great tires.

Tested out the new km2's today.. Poked a pretty good sized hole in between the treadblocks. Other than that, the performed flawlessly. Barely needed 4x4.

Finally able to take these KM2's off-road for the first time, and they were stupendous! CA desert style at Gorman through sand, rocks and mud. The tires did phenomenal after being dropped to 25psi - no slipping sliding or whatnot. I LOVE this size tire!

    I run my KM2s @ 18 front & 15 rear.
The 265s & 285s I went mudding with were sliding & fishtailing as they paddled across while I just cut through the mud and kept going.

For those of you that aren't rubbing on stock rims: Are you using wheel spacers ?

Wheel spacers would increase the chance of rubbing

Rubbed when I bought them (on 16" TRD wheels), trimmed a bit. Just armored up, got an alignment (see pic) and took her off-road for the first time w/ this setup..... I'm rubbing more and need to trim a bunch. Seems moreso on the driver's side.
