Hole in porcelain sink

So my mother-in-law dropped a coffee cup in her bathroom sink. It knocked a football shaped hole about 2 inches long and 2 inches wide at widest point.

Question can this be repaired some sort of porcelain glue/repair kit? In my mind this seems very feasible/somewhat easy.

I dont know if can be fixed to look perfect, but Id tape it on the bottom, then superglue it on the top, and finally seal it with a smal amout of silicon or some cheap sealent

 

Yea looks are of zero issue, I read somewhere that I could use a fiberglass repair on the underside of the sink, not sure how well that will hold up though.

 

That would be a good way to keep it up rather then tape, but me and OCD, I would still superglue it and seal it Just so there was a less of a chance of it leaking

If looks aren't an issue, I'd JB weld the back (rough it up so it sticks better) and use a silicone adhesive around the perimeter when I stuck the piece in. Let everything cure, then use a sealant for ceramic tile on the inside of the sink just for extra protection.

 

Change it out.

A new sink should cost like 67 bucks from home depot and the cost of a couple of squirts of silicone caulk and an afternoon's worth of real work, and about 24 hours of curing.

 

This is if the faucet itself will come out of the porcelain sink, otherwise you're out another $50. Also, some of those old porcelain sinks were built into the countertop so good luck finding one that fits perfectly. If you DO find one that fits, I promise it will be well over $200 for just the sink.

Meh, Still cheaper than hiring someone to fix it.

At any rate, if the OP is living in tract housing, or homes made by a big developer, chances are the sink will be a standard model available at a home improvement store at a reasonable price, if it's custom, then it'll cost more.

 

Ok so my Mother-in-law happened to have another spare sink in the attic she failed to mention, that is now in place and old one off to the dump. Thanks for all the input.
