How does TRD sport compare off road to a pre-tacoma?

    Fellas,
I'm needing to replace a 93 Pre Tacoma SR5. It has no LSD or rear locker. It has done everything off road I've needed it to do. My question is, is a TRD Sport with the addition of the Limited Slip Diff going to be at least as good off road as my old Pre-Tacoma? Will it be better off road considering the addition of the LSD? There is a TRD Sport for sale in my town that I'd like to buy if it will do what my Pre-Tacoma is able to do off road. Help me understand. Doug

It's called a Toyota truck, not a pre Tacoma. That just sounds retarded. Yes it will be better off road. It will def have more power and room. It's a little bit wider but it still fits down trails fine.

comming from a 92 4x4, i find that my 08 4x4 flexes much better, as my 92 would offten lift a tire and leave me buckin with 1 wheel drive, my 08 believe it or not turns tighter too.

it just lacks ground clearance, and approach and departure angles. if im not snagged on something, it maintains much better contact with the trail.

both my trucks were/are just basic, manual everything extra (or access) cab 4x4s with open diffs. stock for stock except i had 31's on the old pickup. an lsd would be awesome and im sure would help you even more.

dont ever sell that 93 though, especially if its a 22re, i miss my little ticker dearly

Do you want a rear locker? You will need to add it to the Sport... or wait until an Off Road TRD is available (locker standard equipment).

You mean like telling the OP his/her word choice "sounds retarded" (see your own post). I'm saying don't be an ass - that's my contribution to this thread. Thanks.

i agree with friction... Enzo, the purpose of this forum is to help eachother out and teach eachother new things about our trucks. also to share the love for our trucks... nowhere in the description does it say for us to be smart asses to eachother.. obviously you knew what OP was talking about, why not leave it at that?

To answer the OP's question, yes my 06 TRD sport dc does great off road.

And theres my contribution to the thread.;)

My 86 pickup rides pretty rough compared to my 06 and much less power. Buuuuutt that thing is tough as F***! Its been crashed twice on our dirt road, once by my dad(slid off the road down a cliff, pulled it out with only a couple scratches) and once by me(slid off an off camber turn into a small tree last week and only had a slight dent in the fender) and its still goin strong! As for my 06, that thing would've crumpled if I did that. Hell, I hit a bird the other day and it cracked my front bumper!

if you test drive a new TRD Sport and a new TRD Off Road the same day...

most of the differance in ride will be due to the tires. The Sport comes with a street tire (mine has Bridgestone) and the Off Road has an AT tire (most I've seen have BFG)

there may be a differance in socks?

and I do know the 2012 Sport has the 4-leaf rear...the 2012 Off Road has a 3-leaf rear. So that also will have some effect on the ride.

IDK about a pre-tacoma, but my Sport is like a Cadillac compared to my brothers '99 Tacoma.
