just shut up and get 4x4. I go off road 10 days a year and wish almost every day that I had 4x4.

    Edit.

Sorry if I sounded like a "dbag," it was never meant that way.

I just wish someone told me this before I bought my truck.

I'm just saying that when I bought the truck I never thought I'd go off road. and I still really don't off road that much. And I live in San Diego by the beach where the slipperiest road we see is due to a broken sprinkler.

If this guys spending the money on the truck, he should get 4x4. Because it's one of the few things that you really can't change down the line. Yes people do 4x4 conversions and stuff but it's so much easier to buy 4x4 new. And it'll make it much easier to sell the truck in the future.

I come on here to give people advice that I wish I had. I wish someone told me to stop contemplating and just buy 4x4. I would be thanking them every day instead of wishing i had 4x4.

If you want to do off roading then get the 4x4 for sure. 4wd isnt only for wheeling tho. Thete are tons of every day uses. Not only is having the front drive wheels awesome, but 4lo is a beautiful invention and can get you and others out of many situations, and can aid in so many off road situations. if u r asking what lockers, diffs, and 4wd switches are then you need to do a lot more, resarch and go find a friend with a 4x4 to explain it all to u.

My 97 was a 4wd. Used the crap out of it. Got stuck high center over a downed tree in the blue ridge mountains. The clutch start/cancel button saved my ass. Being able to go anywhere got this lunatic in trouble a lot with the law. Most land in Texas is private.
When I shopped for my 07,I went straight over to the 2wd,4 door.I haven't even got a parking ticket, but I'malso 48,decided to chill and run the piss out of dirt bike instead. I did finally replace stock tires,36k miles were more cracked than worn.
I haven't replaced the new trucks grill 3 times, fenders, bumper, brushguard, hood. That old truck took a beating. My new tires now give me more traction off-road than before.
    Just my opinion.

If you don't get 4x4...at least get a poser set of 4x4 mudflaps for the rear.

then you can feel superior toward other Tacoma drivers who don't have 4x4.

    Or...

remove mudflaps all together...put on some big azz tires wrapped on funky lookin aftermarket black wheels. even if the tires rub, that's OK...cause it makes the truck look cool to anyone under 20 y/o...and half of the rest of the driving population.
    them are some good percentages.

    the numbers work, I'm tellin'ya. :D

This can easily become an upside because sometimes during bitch fights boobies pop out...and everyone loves boobies! ;)

Back on topic, I would say buy the 4x4. I have a 2 year old Prerunner Off Road and will be trading it this week for a 4x4. When I got it I thought I would never need or want 4wd and I really haven't needed it yet. However, I have not gone some places that I want to go because I fear getting stuck or because the trail is labeled 4x4 only. If you look around this site you will find many, many people who bought 2wd only to trade up a few years later. Save yourself the time. Do it right and only do it once!

 you never go anywhere that can get you stuck to begin with, so how would you know the full potential of ATRAC lol..but we understand, knowing that you have a leased vehicle and that you wouldn't risk putting any dents or scratches on it.

    Have a great evening!

The benefits of having 4x4 definitely outweigh any additional costs along the way. I don't use four wheel drive very much, but I'm always glad I paid the extra $$ up front to have it when I need it. I'll always buy a 4x4 regardless of where I live and what I'll use the truck for because I don't ever want to be in a situation where I need it and don't have it. Been there and done that when I was younger and couldn't afford it.

This is my first 4x4 and after 25000 miles i have seen no downside. I have enjoyed this vehicle more than any other i have ever owned. If you are worried about the 1 or 2 mile per gallon loss, you should probably not be looking at buying a truck. For the little bit of extra money that the 4 wheel drive costs, you will never regret it. In fact, you will wonder why you waited so long to get one.
