Just got finished taping and masking everything off and finished with the first coat. I think I sprayed too much on for the first coat and got a few bubbles in the side emblems. I hope it smoothes out with more coats. I will try to update everyone on the progress today and hope to get pics up when completed.

Well I had a set back. Rookie mistake. I washed my truck this morning and thought I had everything dry before I started spraying. Guess I didn't because when I started pulling the tape and masking the PlastiDip came off the emblems and water was behind them. I am going to retape and mask everything again and start from scratch here in the next hour or so. I'm working today at the fire department, so I have plenty of idle time to do it again. Just a pain in the butt to go back and start over. I did finish the front emblem and it looks great. I will probably be done LATE tonight, since I am doing about 4-5 coats and waiting till everything dries good.

Just go easy washing them. If you wash it to hard, you can pull it off or change the finish. My bull bar did well for 6 months or more until it had a chip that showed the chrome. The badges are much better for this since they are smaller and mainly on the sides and back of the truck.

personally after washing, I would scuff the surface with a scuff pad, then clean with wax and grease remover, and finally apply some Bulldog adhesion promoter before applying a new coating of anything. It helps make sure that everything sticks, and STAYS stuck.

I started over Saturday and it came out great. A few minor spots, I can live with it.

How does it defeat the purpose? I thought the idea was to coat the emblems and make it stick?

Yeah, the great advantage of plasti-dip is that it will stick to most everything and is easily removable. The key is minor prep and somewhat durable. If you are looking for a long term solution, then you have to do all the proper things to make painting go well.

I pulled the plasti-dip off my bull bar after it got a chip in it. I know I like it black, so now I will go through all the real prep work to paint it.
