Just want to thank op! Did Taco's 1st oil change today- Mobil 1 dino because of the break in period (1075 miles) It was a snap thanks to this thread. Got tubing from home depot, five bucks for 20 feet, worked great, & installed Fumoto valve as well.

At the risk of oversimplifying things, did you wipe off the dipstick when you first took it out after your 5 minute run, then put it back in and then pull it out for a second look?

On here there's quite a few people talking about the dipstick not being accurate. I'm planning on getting an oil pressure gauge just to monitor it and hopefully keep from over filling it. At least I think the pressure gauge will be able to tell me.

I just started the oil change and noticed that the dealership didn't put the rubber drain plug back on the oil filter assembly. It's little...and big...things like this that really get me pissed off about the way dealerships treat your vehicles.

Does anyone know what the part number is for that plug? Thanks.

Just go ask them for one. I did that when they left mine off.

Did my first oil change on my truck this weekend. Went with Penzoil Ultra and a stock filter (got 2 at the dealer for 10 bucks and they threw in 2 oil drain plug washers). The penzoil was highly reccomended for my previous car (Mazdaspeed3) so I stuck with it. Went pretty smooth, especially since I saw this post before I did it. Only "issue" I had was the oil drained way too fast (was still pretty hot) and splattered quite a bit as it was hitting my catch can. Overall, pretty easy job though. Love not having to get a jack out to change my oil!

question about changing oil, i purchased the truck from my parents. its been using conventional oil for the life of the truck. as of now it has 94000. is it ok to switch to synthetic oil?

my dad has a friend that works for toyota that said it could be bad to switch to synthetic, just to use conventional.

so i'm about to do the oil change tomorrow morning and glad i found this thread. safe to use mobil super 5w30? for the filter, i'm using bosch filter.

    any input/ideas welcomed :)

*edit* just went through a thread about oil filters and well for the oil filter, i'll most likely return the bosch filter i purchased for 11.97 and go to dealership and purchase a toyo oil filter and grab a new plug gasket while im there.

Damn, that report looks impressive. Looks like there was practically no difference between 10k and 5k miles! Food for thought I guess....were you using synthetic or conventional? How many miles on the motor?

The tube is a good idea, or you can do what I do, and punch a hole in the top of the filter with a pick or a screwdriver and the oil will drain back in, just wipe up the little bit of residual oil and your good

That was mentioned as well, but some folks brought up concerns about possibly damaging things with the force of the hit on the filter. I'll stick with the tube, just in case.

I have a 2012 Prerunner . I don't see the oil filter drain like in other models, or maybe I missed it. Or, does the 2012 model does not have it? Here is a pic of the oil filter. Do I have to take off one of those line I see there under the oil cooler? Any help would be appreciated.

I just went outside and I feel a rubber tip underneath. I just can't see it. Blind spot. There is no space to look underneath. They did not make it visible at all. Its dark outside to mess around tonight. I will wait till tomorrow. Thanks Christians.
