Mine was built in mexico and it feels pretty solid. Only thing I don't like is how inconsistent the plastic welded tabs were on the door panels, which pretty much makes it impossible for me to change the material on the inserts. I mean, I could risk doing it, but there isn't nearly as much plastic material to screw back into as I've seen in some of the pictures posted here.

Quality wise, everything else is very good.

. . . ^ ^ ^ . . . I agree except when the same cars on built on the same lines in Japan & US and the "J Cars" seem to be better.

You used to be able to request "J Cars" at dealers when they were available (before production shifts).

Honda may start a "split production line" on the Honda Fit (now made in Japan) ... if so, we will still continue to buy the "J-Car" aka Made In Japan for its' quality.

Looking on the sticker now ...

    Tacoma Double Cab 4x4 V6 ... 2012/7594 C

Port/Plant: TMMBC - BAJA CAL, MX

Having had Tacomas that were build in all their NA plants (present & past) ... I can't tell the difference.

But, if it could be built in Japan ... I would like that "production model" even better ... as I like the "J-Cars" better. ... :D

Here in the "D", there are tons of cars with the "Made In Detroit" sticker on the rear windows (one more "contribution" from Kid Rock- bad music, bad beer and now cliched stickers) - it's pretty ironic considering some of those cars are actually built in Windsor or Toledo or outlying cities. Somebody should come up with a "Hecho En Baja" sticker.

Mexican workers work hard but are unskilled.

American workers are skilled but are lazy.

So I would say the build quality between the two is a wash.

Internet forum posts can be grammatically correct but lacking facts.

Or can be factual but full of grammmatic errors.

So I would say the quality between the two is full of assumptions. :D

Mine was made in Nummi where ever that was..............

BTW, apart from the compass and reverse switch, nothing has gone wrong with mine in 80k miles

Mine 2012 was built in Mexico, everything's great after 5000 miles so far. I could have opted for one built in the US, but I was leery since the plant was new. Experience trumps youth.

TMMBC has been building Tacos since 1st gens in 2002. TMMTX only started in late 2010. Some of the first model-year 2011 Access Cabs had door latch fitment issues.

It's in Fremont, California (LA suburb I think). The plant now makes overweight Loti for hipsters i.e. Teslas.

Meanwhile, the original Lotus car company is now primarily a fashion clothing company:

Skill level has not-shit to do with ethnicity.

Generalizations aren't accurate, generally speaking ([IMG])

Come of think of it, wonder how many NUMMI workers were of Mexican descent... I mean, you can pretty much get around LA by speaking Spanish.

Yeah. Skill level is pretty much about training and initiative to maintain and improve your skills over the course of your career.

I'm going to go ahead and say it: Calling automotive manufacture "skilled" work is being generous. Don't get me wrong - It's honest work, it's *not* easy work, and it deserves to be appropriately compensated. There's nothing wrong with it. What I'm saying is the training level is not high.

Work ethic matters more than anything else in industrial jobs, with the possible exception of good judgement (industrial work tends to be dangerous if done by idiots). They can provide a hire with the modest level of skill needed through on the job training.

    . . . ^ ^ ^ . . . "Nummi" was a moon colony Tacoma production facility ... destroyed by a "joint venture missile". ...

I have no problem throwing a few jobs Mexico's way. Honest work *might* help to weaken the cartels. Just like if we move more production from China to Canada they will quit coming down here, taking our jerbs, and hooking innocent school kids on their syrup.
