and the tranny broke...yesterday after i pulled out of the driveway it stayed in first gear and wouldnt shift into second when it finally did it was real hard then when right to third then od. came to a stop at the light pressed the gas the engine revved up but no movement from the truck (it was in gear). then jerked forward and continued on, slipping through all gears. limped it to the dealership who tried telling me what i was describing was "normal driving habits for that truck with it being a prerunner" and i was like BULL someone needs to take a ride in the truck and sure enough we barely got around the parking lot. they are calling me today and letting me know whats going on. i couldnt be anymore pissed off.

I know shift happens but dang its 14 months old 18k miles and it breaks on me. oh well thank goodness for warranties.

    just had to rant!

Good thing you had them test drive it & the problem replicated itself right then & there. Luckily you didn't get stuck anywhere. Best of luck with the fix

Years ago something like this happened to me in my old IHC pickup. I thought I'd blown a clutch.

Turned out I'd sheared off an axle shaft. It would only move slowly, and reluctantly, and only then because of the LSD.

It lived in the shop. Now with the replacment I have had to replace the trans. , I blew my head gaskets 3 weeks ago and now that I've gotten it back from the shop my 4x4 wont work! It sucks. Oh did I mention that I'm talking about my ford diesel f350. hope I did'nt scare any one. This is why I bought my tacoma. Good luck to you. Im sure it will all work out.:D

Yeah man...No need to get pissed yet- As long as they cover it- Good to go. Shit breaks now and again- as long as it doesn't cost you to fix it- No biggie.

If they try to charge you...then there might be some talking to be done.

Not sure if you have/need this but he just got a letter essentially stating (from Ford) that they have identified this as a problem called shearing or something. If you need a copy I can scan it into a PDF.

    Nothing yet, brand new!
    It has a manufacturers warranty.

Not a "guarantee". It's a mechanical device built by humans.

And it's still under warranty. It sucks but hey life happens..

they said they'd replace the tranny, im just ticked because its my only vehicle my other one is awaiting the engine to be dynoed and broken in by the machine shop. then i probably wont even drive the tacoma at all during the summer and then rest my joy after summer.
