u dont have to cut the cats out, but u also dont need them either if u get the 02 sims. plenty of people are running these on their truck with great success. anyone that has the dough thorley longtube headers pretty much needs them except in some circumstances

in NC w/ emmissions inspections, it's "illegal". i dont have this done on mine, but eventually i will remove the 2 rear cats when i reroute the exhaust from behind the crossmember. i wont need the O2 sims on the 05+ since the rear cats arent monitored.

I'm not too much into modding my truck. I have an Sti for that. I just was looking to get the CEL to go off and stay off. My truck is coming up on 200k and I'm getting ready to do a tune up and that is one thing on the list.

Do you need the sims just for the rear one right?

All they do in NC is plug the OBDII up and if the CEL is off then you're fine. They don't test exhaust gas. At least not where I go. I have illegal tint that has to get passed. Inspections are a joke in my opinion.

if I did an inspection on A truck without cats I would fail it for no cats, o2 simulators are very noticable to an average inspection mechanic. but if your ok with the $1000s of dollars in fines you will recieve if you get caught go ahead, our trucks won't recieve enough power from removing the cats to make a difference anyways.

if you replaced them 3 times you may have another problem

The inspection stations never look to see what's under the truck anyway. As long as the CEL is OK then you pass. So no fines there. Also, cats can fail at any given time. It could be 3 months or 3 years.

just cause your station never looks under doesn't mean they do it right, as a certified nc inspector you are supposed to lift the vehicle to check emissions and safety equipment, Im saying if dmv was to see you without cats in our state, you could be fined quite abit of money, seeing as its against the law to tamper with emissions components
btw in nc the new law hb585 states that vehicles 3 years or older and with 70k or more on them only recieve safety inspection,

just because your cel is on doesnt mean it will fail...if you have a tranny code it doesn't fail for that

I don't plan on removing the cats. I got up with URD and they said I could leave it on and still use the simulator. There are a TON of new cars on the road with not cats and never get fined. As long as you have a station that will pass you then no worries there. I'm just trying to the the P0420 Code to go the hell away!

I've never heard about the HB585 law. Could you elaborate?
