Certain bumps rubbed the tire on the back plastic towards the bottom. Already trimmed some from there to begin with, now it needs to be more. If my truck wasn't in the shop, I'd take a photo...

They said it was the best they could do. I'm naive to this. Is that bad?

That's pretty high , 2.5-3 is generally the target with a lift

Are your alignment cams seized up ?

Interesting you're rubbing with that much caster, your TC UCAs are gonna push your tire back towards the cab but running with that much caster you should be pushing it back away pretty significantly. I don't know if they've changed anything with these newer trucks (11s etc) though. I thought they changed the alignment specs but I don't know why. I can't see that sheet well enough to read what the specified range is.

You could try having them back the caster down to like 2.5 - 3* but everything I've done suggests that should do the opposite of what you want. Esentially your UCA is a fixed point, those TCs rotated the top backwards 2* over stock but all the adjustment there after is done at the bottom (LCA). When you add caster it's like a motorcycle -- chopper for extreme example -- you're pushing the bottom forward creating a line from the LCA BJ to the UCA BJ that slants like this / (which creates stability and causes the tire to raise on one edge when turning so it wants to fall and return steering to center) that moves the tire in the wheel well and if you're wanting to move it forward then the more caster you add at the bottom the more you're gonna push it away from the cab. So with nearly 4* you shouldn't have rubbing with those tires and wheels IMO but obviously you do so I'm at a loss. Sorry for any run on sentences.

I would say your best bet is to just trim the plastic wherever it rubs.

P.S. OZ pm'd me and sent me here... what a guy -- though I'm not sure I helped.

I trimmed the flimsy plastic when i was rubbing. Also mine was mainly on the drivers side. Just trim the shit out of the thin plastic.

    Side node:
I also rub the UCA, I have DSM UCAs.

    I concur :drevil:

I'm at 2.6* right now and my next will be back up to 3* so I probably won't rub anything.

Naw, that's a great explanation, thank you! The mechanic said that was the best they could do for all numbers.

OZ, for the fact the caster went down I assume the alignment cams aren't seized. Thanks for pointing Max in this direction, btw!

I'll trim and check out how it affects things. Maybe I just need to find an off-road place to align these.

Hey guys, I want to get some new rims. I'm liking the Level8 Guardians but they come in a 16X8.5... do you think there will be problems running on a rim that wide with 255's.

The specs for the specific tire will have an acceptable wheel width range and a recommended width.

so what kind of mpg's are people getting compared to 285's? i get about 16.7 mixed (v6 DCLB prerunner) driving with 285's, I've heard 255's are a bit better on gas than 285's, just because of the width difference, is that true?
