Man that sucks, I sure hope you can make it.

For me there are three distinct driving conditions that effect my fuel mileage. Wheeling a trail that requires slow travel, many stops, and possible use of low range is where I get the worst mileage. Typically 12-14 mpg. Stop and go driving, as in traffic or work commute is usually a little better but not a whole lot. Typically 15-16 mpg. On the highway with little to no stop and go at all is by far the best for me, especially if I keep my speed below 65 mph. Typically 19-20 mpg. All of these numbers are from my scanguage and have proven to be very consistent over time.

Those /\/\/\/\ things are teeth, designed for making better contact. the piece it threads onto will have those same teeth on it and they will lock together.

 

I'd bring the adaptor Lisa. I'll just bring the CB in case anyone's poops out.

Somehow at Moab I got better mpgs on the trails then on the way down there ha

 

Moab fuel was special. I noticed some increase from normal too. Im not sure what that is about. Even timmy tundra picked up a couple of mpgs from the fill up in Moab. And 2 mpgs towing is significant.

Inciweb is reporting a new, lightening caused fire not to far from the Powell Ranger district office. The fire is a couple of miles south of highway 12 about 10 miles west of Powell. 46.431 latitude, -114.925 longitude

So I broke out the SWR meter to recheck my CB system. I have not touched it since I installed it 2 years ago but I had some problems hearing some people at the last outing. It is weird, I learned that it is possible to be pretty close on one end of the channel spectrum and be way off on the other end.

On ch 1 I was pretty good at 1.3-1.4. Bur on ch 40 I was over 3. Not good. A consistently high reading like that can damage the radio. On the channel I use all the time, ch 22, I was 1.7-1.8, not bad but not the best. The book says to have a 1.5 or less on the channel you use.

Fortunately, shortening the antenna by turning down on the tip adjuster improved ch 22. The needle now just barely moves off of the 1 setting when I key the mic. It also improved ch 40, with a reading of 1.5 (yay- no more damage). The weird part is that ch 1 actually go a little worse. Its now at 1.8.

 

I think we need to do something special around the campfire on one magruder evening. Something to commemorate our friends who were unable to join us because of their job obligations. There is precedent for this. A burned pineapple comes to mind.

Yeah, I spoke with the folks at the Red River ranger office this afternoon. They are scrambling. They have reports on 12 new fires started by last nights lightening.

Most are very small and so far there are no closures and most are not near where we will be any way. But we will have to check in again before heading out. They gave me a phone number I can call on Sunday to check road status with.

 

Ya well due to the board spectrum of the radio that's why it's worse farther from the channel you tune. It's why you try and stick to that one channel. I still need to tune mine. It worked great with Jon tho..aside from the fact I could never hear him when he was in front of me

What the fuck you laughing at guber. I could hear you fine. In fact I could hear everyone fine except for Mark and everyone could hear me just fine.

I'm still not convinced that my setup was the problem. Mine was unchanged for 2 years and I always hear him well when it is just the 2 of us. And at Moab I had absolutely no CB issues either.
