Hey guys, This is my second oil change after switching to full synthetic, was wondering why my oil after the last two changes is rather dark in color. I do my changes every 3-5k with full synthetic mobil one. Im not worried in the least bit, just curious since I know synthetic takes longer to breakdown and Im changing it early and its still that rich dark, i need changed color. Thanks guys!

Dark oil only means that it is doing what it is supposed to do. It suspends the contaminates in the oil, that is why it is dark.

    No worries.

how many miles of the engine? It is probably still breaking up deposits of the old conventional oil left in the engine. My oil looks almost new after 5k but i switched to synthetic at around 5k total miles.

I change my oil every 3500 and its slightly darker than when i put it in... Did u buy ur truck new? i got mine with 17k and i been doing my own oil ever since, mine stays clean. On a side note, i check mine often just for fun and if i notice it getting darker i change it, maby its a waste but i rather be safe than sorry when it comes to my the vitals on my engines. PS stock filters are best in case u don't use them, and there cheap. Buy 3 get one free at my dealer.

I bought the 10 factory filters I think for $50 buck deal I saw on here awhile back when I first bought my red babe. Truck is at 63500, started doing my own changes at 55k, bought her at 50k (dealer did first change free). Im not concerned, I work on my bikes and all my cars and knew nothing was wrong, just weird that since Im running full synthetic it looks like that after 3-5k, but not worried, since she's not leaking or burning oil and running like a champ, previous owner ran factory semi dino oil in her (old guy who bought the maintence package when he bought the truck new).

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
I'd let it drain overnight, at least. Keep changing it until it clears up.

No that cannot possibly be. Those factory filters are far superior to any others of similar price. Despite the rough looking paint job on the outside of the filter, they have a shiny seal "genuine toyota" on the box. I read this on the net so it must be the truth. :D:D

But seriously, the color is going to darken with mileage with any kind of oil. That is normal. The filter will remove the larger particles but there will always be some some totally dissolved, unfilterable components building up in the oil over time.

I think the main advantage of the synthetic is that, supposedly, the lubrication properties hold up longer over time and mileage.
