COB RECALL '05-'09 HELP THREAD

Alright, I am creating this thread to try to help a little with whats going on with this recall. I have had people PM me asking what they should do regarding this recall and up till now i was telling them if their light wasnt on, dont bother going to a dealer cause there was nothing they could do at that time.

WELL, they recently updated our recall info, there is now an actual inspection of the spiral cable to be done by the techs to determine if it is involved in the recall. We need to remove your steering column covers and check the lot # of the cable. Very easy. I will update if nymore info becomes available.

NOW, if you are questioning whether or not your truck is involved in this recall, please feel free to post your ENTIRE 17 digit VIN and i can run it for you through TIS to see if it is or not. I will do this as i have time, if i dont responde as qucik as possible, please be patient. Hopefully this helps at least a little.

 

Jason...could you explain what that picture is showing. Is that the defective lot number? Thanks

 

When you remove the covers we can see the spiral cable lot number.
We now have a listing of the lot numbers that indicate the ones that need replacement.
The picture Jason posted is the lot number we look at.. it's just a generic pic i think

 

That is the top of the spiral cable with the steering cover removed. That is the # we are to check to see if it applies, of all those #'s on that label, we are only looking for 1 particular digit. I have already done 2 today.

 

So does Toyota know which VINs received the defective lot, or is the VIN check just the standard list (those who received letters) and the inspection is still needed?

If we give you the lot number off of the part, you can tell us if we need to be concerned?

 

The vin would be just to see who shuld have recieved letters, though the recall does state that 85-90% of all affected vehicles will need part replacement. Yes, if you want to take a look at it, feel free to give me the numbers you find, in the EXACT order with "***'s" that you find it to be written. It would be even better if you can take a picture of the label.

 

Cool deal. Too hot to do anything on the truck this week (110 right now), but I'll see if I can pull the numbers soon.

Spiral cable/clockspring.

One or more of the wires will break which triggers an airbag light.
You should have received your first letter last April if your truck is covered, and will receive a 2nd letter when your local dealership has replacement parts available.

 

Thomas, your truck isn't part of it, it's too new. If I am remembering right yours is an '10 right?
