I am working on a bed bar / tire carrier for my truck and what I ended up with today is nice, but will not work for me. I am going to carry my hi lift acrosse the front of the bed and have to slide the ammo cans towards the rear of the truck.

Before I dismantle this, I wanted to see if anyone is interested in it. I really like the design for someone that doesnt want to hi lift there.

The cross bar is .120 DOM ( 1.5") and the brackets are 3/16" strap. I used 1.20 wall since this will eventually be a tire mount / bed rack system for my truck. I stood on it today and jumped up and down on it :D ( 190 lbs) and it doesnt give at all.

Its not welded together yet, so I still have some flexibility with it. If it was for a bed bar only. I would make the cross bar out of .065 tubing. I have two extra light tabs here that I can put wherever you want it on the bar ( To use them where I have them laid out, the bar needs to move back about 1/2").

It can be used with or without the 50 cal ammo cans, but the nifty part is that with the cans, the hardware ( 1/2") is all hidden inside the locked can).

Id like to get $75 for it with a .065 DOM cross bar and w/o hardware ( including two light/antennae) tabs. I am using really nice hardware for mine ( T slot nuts and shallow button head bolts) which runs about $20 for the hardware alone, so I will leave it up to you , it can be done cheaper with hardware from HD or Lowes.

    $85 with a 1.20" DOM cross bar

Ammo cans not included either. ( You will need to make a 1/8" spacer for the cans to open and close properly, I just used a piece of 1.25" nylon from Mcmaster)

Shoot me a PM if you are interested

I like the design and functionality. How did you plan on mounting the tire?

It will be a swing up to start. I have also thought about integrating a headache bar into it, but I am on the fence with that one.

I will track the progress in my build as I get to it.

The cans will move back about 6-7" to allow clearance for the hi lift and I am adding another bar about 3" below the current one ( after a little bending) to hold it

    Bump

Ill probably weld in a .065 bar this weekend and throw it back up here, but this is the chance to get some customization if you like

Looks nice! I noticed those mounting tabs and how half of the hole is over the rail..is there a fix for that or will they be on the other way facing out towards the tailgate?

The bar has to be moved back about 1/2" or so to use them that way. The thought was to hide the light hardware and wiring, but they can just as easily go towards the rear.

I will probably just pull it back 1/2" on mine, but if someone wants this one, I can put them wherever.

Ah ok. I was just curious when I saw it. Solid design with the ammo cans though. Good luck with sale.

I might be interested in making a few more if someone was interested, but I decided to keep this one. Once I fnid a spare, I will add the swing up tire carrier portion.

Check in my build and I listed the site that I got them from. I think they were 12 bucks a piece and were practically brand new cans ( very little use)
