I'm running the 3.4 with manual Trans. I feel like I'm being hard on my yota when getting on the interstates to and from work (very short on ramps). I was just currious to what your auto trans shifts at through 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th with the pedal to the floor?

You are really comparing apples to oranges. The gear ratios on the automatic gears are very different from the manual gears. The shift points won't be the same no matter what. You really can only compare manual to manual (same exact transmission).

Floored, most auto transmissions will go to redline before they shift. Anything below that is too hard to quantify due to differences in user input.

I get what your saying. Basicly what i'm getting at is how high are your RPM's when the truck shifts? 4000? 4200? 4500?....etc. I run my RPM's up to 4200 before I throw the next gear. It just seems like a bit much you know.

My four banger seems happiest shifting around 3K.

On my manual tranny, I normally shift between 2,800 and 3,400 to get on the highway. Otherwise, I am down about 2,200 to 2,700. Of course, our engines, trannies, and weights are completely different though.

Just look at a dyno curve and thay should tell you where to shift. I pretty much just shift by feel (2,000 to 3,000 perhaps) but I believe when I'm hammering it my shifts come around 3750.

At what indicated RPM does the rev limiter kick in?

I drive a manual, but I keep mine at between 2,700 and 3,000. My old truck needed at least 4,000 to properly get up to speed. When I did that the first time in this truck (out of habbit) I pushed in the clutch and felt this vibration in the pedal from the engine. Seemed like I was reving too hard, so I keep it lower now. Around 2,700 is my sweet spot I think.

I feel all manual trannys should be shifting around 3k rpm, 4 is way to much IMHO

getting on the freeway, 3,500 to 4,000 (very steep and short on ramp) but normally around 2000 - 2500. Highest I've ever taken it was 4,500 and it didn't break a sweat.

On mine when I'm at like a freeway on ramp meter light and then have to get up to speed quick for example, I'll shift out of first at 3k, second about 2.8K, third 2.7K, and then fourth into fifth is usually around 2.5k rpm's.

Forgive me if I'm out of line... but isn't a rev limiter there to prevent damage from over-revving? I guess I don't see a problem with bouncing it off occasionally.

    (It's 5500 btw )

my 98 redlines before it shifts if im into it strong, in the x runner i shift between 2000 and 3000 in traffic, but occasionally i will set it in the floor just for fun lol. when i run it on the track i bounce the rev limiter once when i shift most of the time. sometimes i will shift it about 5200 though.
