I agree that concealed is a much better idea. I would rather surprise would-be asswipes committing a crime than them having a heads up that I am carrying with it in sight. I also disagree that the open carrier is to blame in this instance. The fucking cops know or should be held responsible for knowing current statutes and if any question get on your little radio and ask for verification. It's their job to know especially since they are being paid to enforce them. The current law is what rules, not their interpretaion or ignorance of what is current. Last year's shit is just that. The cop making threats should be charged with that and the others should be charged with unlawful restraint, false arrest. They were the ones inciting. The carrier should have been allowed to leave quietly like he was trying to do for 10 minutes before the cops incited things further. Instead, they made it into a situation where they were butthurt about being wrong and turned it into the circus that ensued. He should take this to court and be awarded a civil suit victory as an example to the city to have their officers educated on current laws or appropriate actions if any question of them in non-violent situations. Why weren't the cops concerned with all the jaywalker's risk of being squashed by vehicles while pushing baby strollers? Concerned for their safety because someone else besides them had a gun in plain site but not concerned for their safety enough to keep them out of the street. Kinda shitheadedly contradictive wouldn't you say? It was all bullshit but the cops made it into the nonsense it became...................

The cops weren't concerned with the jaywalker probably because they were dealing with an armed suspect.

The officers in the video didn't know the law and the place to argue that is not on the side of the street with them. It's in a court room. Let them do their job. Record the arrest if you need to but arguing with them on the sidewalk is pointless-you cannot win.

You stand a much better chance in front of a jury. Especially when there is no such law. And when you're respectful and cooperative (not that the guy in the video was not respectful), hopefully, the jury sees that too.

On the other hand, I bet next year it's illegal to open carry in that park. So who really won if that happens?

No I'm not. Why do people assume I'm mad just because I express my opinion of a situation? I hereby promise to use CAPITALS and #%$$^%&#^$&%%#!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! if I am mad or use  to make it clear. Disgusted at level of stupity, backwards ass unneccessary nonsense and abuse of authority but mad? Nah, it wasn't my time and money wasted there so no. But if it helps people, then go ahead and assume so.

    1) there was more than enough officers on the scene to deal with the open carrier and the jaywalkers.

    2) their job is to enforce the laws. in this case they weren't doing their job, they were harassing a law abiding citizen.

Really, what was he suspected of? Utilizing his rights?

The cops knowing the law doesn't clutter up courts wasting people's time and taxpayer money does it? There would have been no argument on the street if they had exhibited knowledge of current laws and just suggested to him that it would be safer for all concerned to conceal or go put it in his truck. Carrier was reasonable longer than the cops were and that's what the jury will see.

I agree as said before, that someone who open carries is normally looking for some type of attention. I under stand that it is legal and blah blah blah, but the person who is doing it knows that it will get noticed, and as soon as someone asked them about it, whether its good, bad, or indifferent, they love it. More lookng for a confrontation IMO. Cause then they have a reason to argue with someone, and tell that person how right they are.

I know this, I would be pissed off if someone other than a police officer, comes into a park or wherever I go, and is open carrying, and I have my 2 boys with me. Because knowing, they want attention, and if no one gives them their "mommy didn't love me attention", then I wonder what are they going to do next?!

This is all IMO of course. I don't care if you agree. :D

If I were going to commit a mass murder and take out as many hippie democrats as I could, I'd take the time to identify the biggest threat to my mission. All douche bags with a gun on their hip just went to the top of the list.

I'm disappointed at all the guys that had to bring up the jaywalkers in the back ground. You guys know damn well that nobody gives a flying flip about jaywalking, but cop bashers always go "all in" when dishing it out. You're a dip $hit for bringing it up.

And when you're ranting about a specific situation, don't blast all police officers for a poorly handled situation that specific officers caused. Most of the arm chair quarterbacks know, deep down, that they don't have the intestinal fortitude to produce the real police work they demand. Don't tell me, a$$hole. Show me how it's done.

you have a CCW to exercise a statutory privilege...carrying concealed is not a right at all...

Actually you do have to protest...if you dont then they can later claim you were free to go and it was only a tier 1 encounter...

and the park wont be a gun free zone because Colorado has state preemption

I'm always smiling. I'm high on life! Don't let my clear, concise, although cuss ridden, statement alarm you. BTW, the "why you so mad" was used a few posts back. I forgive you for your regurgitation.

Open carry only makes sense in the right setting... It draws too much attention to yourself in public. Conceal carry in public for me.

...the jaywalkers in the background show the perfect contrast here, ...it was selective persecution of the guy who, presumably, wasn't breaking any law, ...yet the groups of jaywalkers skate by numerous cops w/out even so much as a look... do we have law enforcement or selective persecution here?... i think the answer is pretty clear by virtue of the vid...

More than enough in your estimation.

I don't know what he was suspected of. He was being detained/talked to. He asked if he could leave and they said no. So he was being detained.

    See above.

He could have asked what he was being charged with/cited for/whatever then asked "am I free to go?" which would have been his protest. My point is arguing with the officer does no good.

In the end, I hope some disciplinary action is taken. There's no excuse for what happened and hiding behind "I didn't know" doesn't work for you and I so why should it work for the officers involved?
