I just bought Taco and I wish I would have bought a TRD.

Silly me, I've always wanted a Toyota truck but I did not do my homework. I needed a Double Cab, Long Bed and that's the requirements I gave my dealer, he sold me a dealer demo for $21K (6K miles on it) but now that have been lurking at this forum for a while, I wish I would have bought a TRD. Having said that, what can I do to improve my performance/handling?

Dude just get the TSB done for suspension and put a diff locker on, those are the only performance differences

there are a lot of little things, ie compass, bed outlet, etc, but the only trd u can get the long bed DC in is the sport

What are the problems you are having with the performance and handling? The performance should be exactly the same since there is no difference in the engine.
Handling...well get the TSB done and it gives you the same bilsteins that come on the TRD OR, but I hardly notice a difference with regular driving, but it does make the ride slightly more stiff over bumps. Or just go with a lift and upgrade all the suspension on your own.

Not sure if they are allowing the TSB for '09s if they are 2wd. But looking back at the the OP, I can't tell if it is a 4wd or 2wd.

all DC's are covered in the TSB, regardless of 4x4 and people have been getting the dealers to do them on 09's

The OP doesn't specify if it is an 09. Prerunner (2wd) models are covered under the TSB and the Double Cab only comes as a Prerunner or 4x4. Access Cabs and Regular Cabs come in 5 lug non-prerunner models which are not covered under the TSB.

True. I guess I just thought 09 since it only had 6k miles. But there is no reason an 08 demo could only have 6k on it. I am confused on the current rear springs TSB though. The last printed copy I looked at, with the VIN numbers on it, stated it had been updated to only allow 09 4wd. Which makes no sense to me, because if you are hauling heavy loads it doesn't matter the drive type, only the suspension involved??

    Thanks

Not to throw off the subject here, but he gave you a Certified Used right? If he sold it to you as 'new' then you got screwed. Just wondering.

Because if you bought a NEW truck, then it couldn't be a demo. A demo is USED.

You might want to take that question to the TSB thread.
I personally don't know since I haven't looked at the current TSB as I've already had mine done.

i'm kinda in the same boat wishing i would have bought an OR want the tow package can add an aftermarket hitch and get near the same capacity 5000 but still isn't 6500. seats cause i think they are bad ass i may just get some Wet okoles though then who cares, and i wanted the locker but i could theorhticaly install one it would just be a bit expensive. The colour matched bumper and grill of a sport would be sweet too but i don't really care too much about that i'm gonna get a plate bumper built for the ass end and i'll sport the chrome and replace it if i really get sick of it. My mission just got extended so My mouth has started watering for a URD blower just not sure if i want to risk putting it on truck that sees the wilderness.

You only get 60k warranty, and the financing is not as good.

Mine was kinda the same as your scenario, I got 100k warranty financed at 3.9 New truck they coudlnt' give me any better than 5.9 financing at the time. Only 60k warranty as well. If it has 6k miles on it (which is the same as mine when I bought it), then I don't know how he could claim it would be new... hope this wasn't your scenario.

    Buck up, kid,

I started out in 87' with my first Toyota pick-up. 'Black Thunder' 22R 4 banger single cab that ran forever but had that crappy bed design that would rot out at the horizontal seam. Had it for 13 years.

In 2000, i worked my way up to the extra cab Black Sand Pearl V6 that i had for 8 years and would have had it a lot longer had it not been for that little frame 'issue'.

In late 2009, i bought my 2009 double TRD Off Road.

I realize some of these kids here seem to recieve these things as gifts for their birthday or raking the leaves or something, but i suspect the majority of us have to pay real money we earn on our own. These things take time.

Your goal on the next one can be to take the next step if that is what you think will make you happy.

    Good luck with it.
