How can they pay less than getting money back that they never paid in the first place?

46% pay no taxes, or get more money back than was held.

And they already do that.... yet you say that they should pay more.

You're talking in circles... I think you're the one that got dizzy and fell down today.

Yes , but it's somewhat relative to this :

Wealthier people face a tax rate as high as 35% on earnings, "but they get the biggest tax breaks," he says. "They start off with such a high tax that the biggest tax breaks don't bring them down to zero. They're benefiting hugely from tax breaks—much more than the poor people—but because they start off at the high level, their tax bills stay positive."

That said, 1,470 millionaires were among those who paid no federal income tax in 2009.

35% is your highest tax bracket for the wealthiest earners and then they get huge breaks on that ?

    Peanuts

the catholic church gets no fereral funding that I know of.

    Penn State probably does.

I believe you misunderstood my point.

I meant if Penn State was a Catholic based university and recieved tax payer funding...and there were the same circumstances...the American corrupt & biased media would be callin for the wrecking ball. (not literally of course, a cliche')

one could argue that tax exemption is effectively the same as receiving funding.

I would love to see how many of the critics here had descendants who were helped by a church somewhere down the path that lead to their very existence. To talk about churches in such a worthless vague manner without any real historical depth and impact in the world is silly at best. Stuff your faces with doritos sitting on your computers frapping to porn and pointing fingers while others sacrifice and give their energies to help those truly in need. Church clergy still have to pay taxes on services, still have rents and mortgages, still buy food and pay sales tax and the money they make is through donations, it all goes back into the system and comes around again, when was the last time you saw a priest or nun retire in the lap of luxury? I hope you never get so physically injured or mentally unstable that you need the humanity of another, if you do, it will probably be a church that is first to offer you some food and a place to lay your head (it sure won't be someone like yourself).

I am physically disabled (MS), I don't get help from any church that I am aware of. I do get help from the ones who love me and the ones I helped thru the years when I was healthy. It is the churches like SCIENTOLOGY that are suspect in my opinion, and the Mormon chrch is a huge for profit organization that is not helping nearly as much as one would hope. Over 7 billion dollars worth of holdings. Do they help nearly as much?

lose the holier than thou attitude, there's tons of people that donate time and money that have no affiliation with a church.

You really want to discuss the Catholic church and how they look thru time? NOT the shining light you might think. But thats another thread.

I tend to default to the catholic church when discussing religion in America. My bad.

    I still don't see it.

I also don't agree with your paraphrase (nothing more than your filtered interpertation & spin)

    respectfully, of course :D
