because it is what came from the factory. toyota stopped using torsion bars in 1997

 

Because your truck came from the factory with coils instead of torsion bars; of which toyota hasn't used since 1997.

Essentially, your truck is the same as mine; and I have a coilover suspension as well.

If by "struts" you mean MacPherson struts, Toyota never put those on any pickup.

In your other thread you said that your shocks were "separate"... that's NOT factory.
The coils should be wrapped around the shocks. The lower coil mount is on the shock tube, bottom of the shock is bolted to the lower control arm.
Top of the coil bolts to the top of the shock and that assembly bolts into the frame.

That's how Toyota has done it on all trucks since 1996.
