I'm planning on spending a day on some maintenance next week before my long voyage back to school and am determining what all to do. I've determined I should change oil, plugs, air filter, coolant, and probably rotate the tires. I'm at about 92,000 miles. One other thing on the maintenance schedule is to check valve clearance. I haven't done this before on my truck and the procedure in the FSM looks like kinda a bitch. I'm not necessarily afraid to try it, but if it isn't necessary I wouldn't mind skipping it haha. How important is it on a modern vehicle? I feel like if something were off enough to make a difference I'd have some of the symptoms of bad valve adjustments. Is this something you guys think should be regularly checked regardless? Or is it one of those things that's kinda overkill and probably wouldn't be necessary unless some problem I'm having is a symptom of valve clearance being off?

Yeah as I'm reading on other stuff I find online all things are pointing to checking them. The biggest PITA I see is that they have shims on them to adjust clearance? That seems stupid as hell even my lawn mowers have a set screw to turn in or out rather than having to go find shims...

do you still have the 255 tires? I remember looking at a few pics of your truck when I decided to get 33/10.5/15 tires and am interested to see how they look with wheel spacers. pics?
