The "TRD Off-Road Package" for $5695.00 does not include a tow package with the oil and transmission cooler.

The Toyota Configurator for a Double Cab,TRD Off-Road does not allow me to add the "Tow Package" under the "Accessories" column either.
When I add the tow package to my build the configurator prompts me to "change option group to a TRD Sport Package".

I have read some people have the tow package on their 2012 TRD Off-Road.

I live in Southern California. Is it a regional option?

my 2012 TRD Sport has the towing package...

a $650.00 option, in addition to the TRD Sport package

maybe it is a mandatory option...but it is listed separately.

    not an expert...

maybe when the dealer orders a truck...and clicks one of the TRD packages...the tow package automatically adds on.

    I only say this because:
    a) I have not seen a new TRD Off Road or TRD Sport w/o the tow package
    b) It is listed as an option separetly

    :notsure:

I have never seen a TRD without the tow package! If it's a TRD it will have the tow package. The Toyota website can be confusing and even sometimes wrong. I wouldn't worry about it. If your looking for pricing check out the 12 pricing thread.

You are right. Sometimes the configurator can be confusing.
Toyota definitely does not show the Class IV hitch being included in any of their descriptions for the TRD Off-Road 4x2 or 4x4 packages.

Their website does show it to be an option when you are just looking at their main "Features/Specs/Options/Accessories" page. But when I try to add it it just says to change my option to a "TRD Sports Pacakge".

Having the tow package included or as an option is a huge marketing factor for Toyota.

How can Toyota assume that consumers know it is included or as an option if their website is not reflecting the correct information.

Unfortunately that's not true. I saw several new '12 TRD OR 4x4s in San Diego and Orange County that didn't have the factory tow package when I was looking for my truck. I don't know about other years, but not all '12 TRDs have it from the factory.

I live in Philly now and I've seen '12 TRDs that don't have it out here as well. Have a family member that owns a Toyota dealer...I'll ask if it's a regional thing now, which is usually the case.

    thanks for the clarification

    I'll say this:
any dealer who orders a new 30 thousand dollar Tacoma and does not click the RPO box "TO" is an absolute idiot.

for $650.00, it is one the best values of any option...if you contemplate all it includes.

matter of fact...it should be standard equiptment on any 6-lugger Tacoma.

Completely agree. Unfortunately, Toyota doesn't give all of their dealers all of the options that are listed on the website...sometimes it's a regional thing and the dealer gets what Toyota sends them, regardless of what they listed on the spec sheet when the order was placed.

In Canada the tow package is part of the 2012 SR5 package, and the SR5 is part of both TRD packages.

Not sure when they became standard equipment. On my 2008 TRD Sport I had to request it, and my buddy's 2009 SR5 doesn't have one.

Something is going on with the Toyota web site.

Around 1:00 pm today I typed in my zip code in the
Toyota configurator to build a MY 2012 TRD Off-Road.
It allowed me to pick two different types of the "TRD Off-Road Packages".

    They were only $40.00 apart.
One was $5695.00 The other was $5655.00
Both packages had Entune/Nav/JBL. The only difference was "Daytime Running Lights".
No "Tow Hitch package" on either one.

Now when I tried again at 11:00 pm (same day) to configure the same truck
The "TRD Off-Road Packages" had dropped in price.

    They are now............
    $5390.00 and $5350.00
That is a $305.00 price drop in the same day.

    So I started over............
This time I typed in a different zip code to build a MY 2012 TRD Off-Road.
I used 98101 (Seatle, Washington), the configurator only gives the option of an "SR5 Package" or "TRD Sport Package". It does not even give a "TRD Off-Package" as an option.

Something is up with Toyota North America.
