    clipping doesn't come from lack of power...it comes from pushing an amp past its safe operating output. so if u push a 50w amp to accommodate 100w RMS speakers by turning up the gain, then its the underpowered amp and the person who set ur gains fault. if speakers blew from under powering then speakers would blow left and right when u play at low volume!

    like I said, u cant blow a speaker from under powering them.

    I dont have an amp hooked up to them right now so I'm putting maybe 10-15 rms to them. And the type r's aren't very effecient which would make sense that heat got to them.

    And payment was sent

    You really didn't read the link did you?

    If it is possible for you to clip your speakers by underpowering them, you would alternatively always have to have the volume set on max with the perfect amplifier to make sure they are never underpowered. I recommend you look into the concept of power ratings and RMS a little more before confusing people on this site. As the link says in the first paragraph

    "
    [SIZE=+1]Too Little Power
    Some people claim that too little power can blow speakers. This is absolutely WRONG. Too little power will only cause the maximum output level to be low. Abuse and the defective 'wing nut' (an idiot) connected to the volume control blow speakers with low powered amplifiers. If driving a speaker with low power would cause them to fail, speakers would fail every time you lower the volume on the head unit. I will try to explain what happens when speakers are driven with badly clipped signals (minor clipping is not harmful).

    Yeah the rms is about 110 on both. I was thinking of sound ordnance m4100 but haven't heard anything about them.

    I run them off a Rockford T400 amp, and I can tell you that it would blow these speakers to shreds if I turned the amp up more. I run it about 20-25% gain and the speaker can not take any more from the amp.

    THIS: Rockford T400.4

    Yes I read that link, about a year ago. Just because you read the page doesn't mean you understand how speakers work. I don't need to argue, I've seen the results and have been in the stereo game long enough. You can blow the speakers from under powering them, I've seen it done, I've blown out some nice tweeters, it can happen.

    And because its on the internet it must be true right? :D

    If I wasn't worried about money I would get a alpine amp as I have had very good luck with them. I just saw the sound ordaince for the price.

    This amp only does 60w rms. according to u that will blow his speakers. Bad suggestion...ur argument is invalid!

    Btw I see ur talking about gain settings...do u know what the gain is for? And be honest to ur self and not google it to sound like u do.

    No but when everyone on the internet says it, you probably should re-evaluate your thoughts.... But the internet isnt my only source. I would like to mention that my good friend works for Rockford (the people who made your amp) and he also agrees that underpowering a speaker is not the cause of a blown speaker. So I match your sarcasm with some of my own. Just because you are too stubborn to change your mind doesn't make your initial view correct :D

    That will be a definite step up from the crutch field one.
