You better hope its not from modifying something... you may end up owing the dealership some money.

If that"s how it turns out, then I gotta man up I guess. As long as the shit works in the future! Still, I seriously doubt that my fog light jailbreak is the cause, seeing as it really is a separate circuit. We'll see in a few days!

I believe in years past that there was a TSB for this problem where a relay was actually missing. Perhaps you could look that up and see if it applies to your situation.

When I bought my truck a mth ago, I notice that they left a precut wiring harness in the utility box under the rear seats. I have not checked to see where this actually goes, if it is needed, or just a spare, but was under the impression that it belongs to the trailer wiring stuff. Did anyone else get an extra wiring harness with their tow package?

The harness is for the trailer brake controller (controller does not come with the truck) All 7 pin factory sockets are wired to the DOT standard no matter who made the truck. Some where in your Taco there is a converter of some sort Toyota's have separate brake and turn signal bulbs trailers do not so they may have trashed your converter with their bad wiring.

I had the same problem at uhaul. On of the guys working there said toyotas needed the trailer lights to be grounded on the trailer. He tapped a wire, grounded it on the trailer and I was good to go.

So here's the result of taking it to the dealer.

Tech spent two hours on it ( the problem was NOT the trailer lights relay as they initially suspected). Found that the factory had apparently not hooked something up properly. All I know is that everything now works as it should, but I swear my turn signal relay sounds louder now... Like they replaced it with a beefier one maybe. Dunno, but I'm happy as long as everything works!
