I need a little help on the wiring of a Viper 5701. I have the install manual and the 06 Tacoma wiring diagram, but I don't want to screw this up.

I am not sure what these wires connect too.

    Viper Manual

    Primary Harness:
    H1/4 White/Brown - Onboard Light flash relay
    H1/10 White/Blue - Remote start/Turbo Timer activation input
    H1/12 Orange - Ground-when-armed output

    Aux Harness:
    H2/6 Light Blue - 200mA 2nd unlock output

Is it necessary to connect the Tach output on a automatic transmission?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Also, what is the part number or where can I get a Starter relay? Looking for a cheap one.

Some alarms have on board relays in the brain so you won't need a to add a relay. It all depends on each alarm.

I assume you are talking about the 2nd starter relay? Most alarm systems have the 1st starter relay onboard, and some will also have the 2nd starter relay onboard. Like Jones said, it depends on the system. If you need one they are cheap and available at most chain parts stores. Here is a link for an online source that also shows a socket plug with pigtail. That is the part you wire to your system then just plug in the relay.

Oh, your other question about the tach.... you need to have tach input because that is how the system knows whether your engine is running or not following a remote start attempt. The 5701 might have what they call a "virtual tach" provision that can substitute for the hard wire method. I have never used a rs system with virtual tach but I have read mixed reviews about how well that feature works. Some guys find that the remote start quits working and they have to relearn the virtual tach. It really isn't hard to make the hard wire tach connection once you are already in the dash.

Well I have everything hooked up (minus rs. waiting for bypass). Pressing the Viper remote the locks don't engage or disengage, but will arm and disarm. When I arm the system and open the door the siren does go off, so that leads me to believe it is hooked up correctly. I just can't figure out why it won't lock?!?!

Oh and if I press the factory remote, the locks engage and disengage.

    Anyone have a clue?

I don't see any info in your post about where you've hooked up the lock/unlock wires from the aftermarket alarm?

Looked up the truck wiring and those should be the right wires. I'm reading the install manual online right now. I don't think I qualify as a "guru", but I'm pretty smart with electrical wiring......

Edit: Only thing I can think of is they have the two lock/unlock wires outputting either a + or - signal. This truck is going to require a - pulse on one wire for lock, and a - pulse on another for unlock. The way I see it is that when you are locking the truck, the lock wire is giving the - signal required, AND the unlock wire is pulsing + at the same time. I don't know if that is going to confuse the computer or not.

If it were me, I'd disconnect the lock and unlock wires from the alarm, then verify with a meter that the alarm is sending out the correct pulses. If the alarm is doing what it's supposed to do, then the problem is the interface with the truck's system. At that point I would be wiring in a couple of relays to keep the truck from seeing a positive pulse on the lock/unlock wires.

One other thing. The parking lights don't flash while using the viper remote, but do when using the factory remote.

Where did you make the connection for the parking lights? From my notes on my 2009 it was: 13. Parking light flash - (POS) green, white 13-pin connector, left side of the front of the fuse panel (just above black 13-pin connector for Dome , see #11 above).

One thing to check is if the Viper parking light flash output is switchable to either neg or pos it might be set on neg by default... which won't work on a Tacoma... at least if it is the same as my 09. Need +12v pulses on the wire noted above.

You might also check the lock output settings to make sure they are neg but in my experience that is usually the default. Which wires on your Tacoma did you connect to? Should be the violet (lock) and green/black (unlock).

Agree with the other poster... not an alarm guru since I only do one of these every 10 years or so when I buy a vehicle. But usually seem to muddle through it.

Okay this is what is happening. When I unplug the lock/unlock wire and plug it back in, you can hear the relay in the brain click and my locks unlock. Nothing happens when I use the remote.

Raylo - I have the lock/unlock wires the way you described them. I figured out the parking light. I didn't have the fuse connected inside the brain.
