Heck, my weakly little SR5 rides like a Cadillac in comparison to my '05 Ranger (which even had a longer wheelbase). These things ride like cars compared to other trucks I've owned. I can't speak to the Sport or its offroad ability, though.

Another option I would suggest if you are interested would be a prerunner SR5. It comes with the same leaf system as the sport and LSD, just doesn't cost as much and you can add mods as you wish.

ummmmm. . . . its so you can power brake and burn both wheels instead of one. jk, well, thats what it does. go to howstuffworks and learn about differentials. that "pumpkin" between your driven wheels has stuff inside that allows it to allow the driven wheels to be turned at different speeds. for turns, and stuff

in an open differential, power, as a side affect of the design is sent to the wheel that is easiest to turn. you're off-road, have one tire on a rock the other in a hole, the one in the hole, with no traction will spin while the other sits dead.

oh wait you bought an off road edition, push the button and you climb out.

like a quad, you ever tried to turn a non irs quad on the street? its hard, because both back tires spin together, same speed through two different length arcs, (both back tires follow their own path, the longer path being outside tire). cars and newer ranch/ utility quads solve this problem with differentials. then they solve the off-road traction problem with a "locker" feature, to lock driven wheels together so that "one wheel peel" thing goes away.

my 4x4 truck, in situations where one front and one rear tire get light contact with the trail, is basically 2 wheel drive, sending power to both wheels that arent even touching the ground. if i had lockers front and rear, it would be a true 4 wheel drive.

check howstuffworks or somewhere to see the real explanation, mine is pretty basic

    Lots of stuff
You has it(if you have trd or). I suggest looking through your owner's manual and reading over the how stuff works as previously suggested. Without proper knowledge of you locker much damage may result with use.

Edit: OP the Sport will do well off road. I had a 90 4runner previously and my TRD OR does as good/ better

My 09 TRD Sport rides great and handles off road very nicely, it is a well rounded truck.

I would recommend a Sport to anyone.

    Apparently not.

This thread reminds me, I need to do some work to 88 pre-pre-taco.
