Nice!

Maybe I can/will earn it by securing the camp site. PM me the proposed site, including gps coordinates, and I can (most likely) get ther early friday.

Can probably stop by and grab some gear from you and/or Ant on my way

I found out this week that the place I was scoping out requires reservations. Sucks because it was right on the lake. Ill call tomorrow and see if it's available but I'm guessing not. This place has showers as well and nice bathrooms.

Ill be packed up Thursday night and leave from work. If I can sneak out I may be there by 1-2pm. Worst case I'm thinking same camp as last time just different spot. Did we ever show you the site we usually get that was taken up by the DB and his camper last time? If not I can grab a satellite view and post it for you.

Thoughts on this yak?
http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/product/index.jsp?productId=12586846

My main concern is that with my setup it needs to span 8' on the truck. So there's only one foot on the roof and the rear support is only a foot from the other end. Looking at this one in the store it's fairly square-ish and flat on top so it may work just fine. :notsure:

Haha, yeah that seems to be the thing lately. All of the new ones have that. This one is a rebranded Pelican. And there are indents behind the seat that are ready for a rod holder.

meh....I would stay away from lesser known brands if it were me. Those hulls are harder plastic. Not so sure how they would hold up. I like the trashcan like material mine is made of.

The small one I have is on sale for $329 http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2479600

This is what I would get if shopping for new from Dicks
http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/p...lmdn=Brand&cp=4406646.4413993.4417832.4417969

or if I had no issues with cash this rocket ship
http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/p...lmdn=Brand&cp=4406646.4413993.4417832.4417969

Either way I think waiting until the season is over is the best bet. REI/EMS/LLB all sell their rentals off at the end of the season - Talk to Josh he used to work at one of them. You can save a ton of cash. Also I would just keep looking on Craigslist.

Also my same kayak is still available brand new foe $549 - your not going to find one these days with that much room for storage behind the seat like you want http://www.amazon.com/Perception-Sp...=2025&creative=165953&creativeASIN=B004ZI8NJ8

good one

Perception:
High Density Polyethylene (H.D.P.E.): Machine extruded and very consistent. UV stabilized means that ultra violet sun ray inhibitors have been put into the material prior to forming. Its impact resistance and memory capacity (ability to regain original shape after impact) are sufficient. It is very hard to keep anything stuck to it. A negative for this material is weight vs size and the high flexibility may cause metal objects next to unit such as pedal drives to wear out.

The Pelican one you linked:
Ram-X: Ram-X is a thermo plastic. The material is semi flexible and has a memory. Thicker is better, but also heavier. UV is tough material. Will usually not dent. A negative for this material is weight, and it can be cut by sharp objects.

Is Pelican a lesser known brand? :notsure:

The swifty 9.5 I could only transport in the bed of the truck and that's no good for me. Does the rythm 11 have any storage behind the seat? I think that one is smooth right behind the seat right?

The problem here is I need a yak for this trip so waiting for the end of the season isn't an option right now.

And yes, I'm not concerned about it having a rod holder or drain plug, I can add those on cheap if necessary.

Everyone's got their own opinions and I favor Perception. From the seat to the hull material I have been a happy customer of theirs for over a decade.

PM Josh and see what he says. He was a river guide as well as a employee at a outfitter.

Buying one is not something I would rush especially for next weekend. Like Kevin said you could tube it and be just fine. Kyle has a spare and so do I. Chances are by buddy will drop out and Ill have two spares so no one will need to rent. Worst case you spend $40-60 on a rental then wait until fall and save a couple hundred. Mine new 8 years ago was selling for $800+ and now its selling for $549..... I paid $350 with paddle and life jacket saving at least $300 over current rate and a ton of cash considering the initial cost back in the day.

Wait for the perfect one to pop up and grab it...IMHO.:)

They will all warp and flatten if not taken care of properly. My 9' kayak has many flat spots from improper storage. It still tracks and paddles A OK. Not something I would be overly concerned with.

So thinner layers samwiched together I would assume. Who needs foam and why would it be useful? I would imagine it would be more difficult to patch a layered yak then a single layer if it got penetrated but who knows....Josh does lol. I remember him telling me he had to patch some of the rentals up.
