Got a ticket. Have some questions

I just want to know what to know if there is any special rules about a United States District Court ticket?

I got the ticket near the Naval Academy so it is a United States District ticket and not a regular one I guess. I have never been given a ticket or even been pulled over so this is a new experience.

It was in a M3 too so it didn't help that I was driving a 70k car.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE leave out the comments about you shouldn't have been speeding. I know that I was wrong and I am really upset about it.

relax man, everyone gets a ticket at some point. when its your time, its your time.

 

who gave you the ticket? pretty sure thats all regular ticket courts. if you go to court you can maybe get a good judge that gives you a break, gives you a break but you still pay fine, community service, or still gives you the point. if you just wait they'll send you a notice to appear and a court date.

 

I haven't gotten a USD ticket...but as with any ticket- Easiest way (NOT the cheapest always tho) is to pay it and be done.

If you are worried about points or insurance finding out- Follow the directions for "Not Guilty/Court Appearance" and go from there....It should have all been explained/written on the ticket for you. If it wasn't...There MUST be a phone number to call...

We never get tickets, but my daughter got a speeding ticket dismissed in court because ... the cop did not offer her a printout of her speed.

And ... sometimes ... you can negotiate and pay the fine with no points (court or cop changes the charge).

I got written up I think for like the max. It's a $185 and 3 points. I'm going not guilty route I think unless someone gives me a good reason not to.

 

one of my buddies asked a cop to see his recorded speed and the cop denied him of it. my buddy still ended up with 5 points. i'd say the easiest way is court. i've been lucky and had two tix dismissed. one i just had to pay a fine but no points. if you pay you would get a point and your insurance may go up. not always but sometimes.

 

That sounds like a state to state thing. FL Police are not allowed to have "speed lock" devices enabled or attached to the speed measuring device...So they have no way to save the speed to print it out.

They put it on the ticket when the print it and that is that.

Yup...That's pretty common- They aren't required to show you anything on the road and to validate their training using the equipment is sufficient in court...unless state law requires a print out or other documentation.

 

if you go not guilty you have to have a really good reason. i would suggest guilty and just say you didn't realize or something along those lines. if its your first the judge might be lenient *spelling*. what was your speed if you don't mind me askin.

 

At my age its going up and up a lot. And driving a 07 tacoma doesn't help but if I pay the ticket I will lose my save driver discount and my insurance will be like 2500 instead of 2000. Can't afford that.

 

Plead whatever it takes to get to court for it and then see if you can get a driver improvement course for no points or something...

 

My dad told me to not post the speed. It was over though and if I was the cop I would have given me a ticket too.... so that fast.

sorry buddy, driving an M3 is asking you to speed, you did what the cop, me, and everyone else would have done and thats test the car. I say go the non guilty route, you have a better chance of getting it dropped or lowered.

Yeah. i'm not much older than you so i know where your comin from. but coming from experience of havin a ticket or two (up to 4 now) i went and figured the worst that could happen would be the points and everything stayed so if you got the max i'm pretty sure it can't be raised. So your best shot would be court. When i went i plead guilty maybe i got lucky not sure but i figured it was worth a shot.

 

M3 that is owned by a family friend but I pretty sure it's my insurance that goes up.

 

I don't know if this is true for Maryland. But in Florida, after you get points placed on your license you can take an on-line driving class and upon completion zero points can be placed against your license and your insurance cannot go up. Oh and don't sweat it to much, even the best of us get a ticket sometimes.

 

So you plead guilty and got off? ... sort of. What happened?

 

o....just asking cause i was on my parents for a little while when i was 16 and got out of having points applied because it was punishing them more than me.....had to pay the ticket though

 

the first one: i was in annapolis ran a red light got pulled over. plead guilty and told the judge i was in an unfamiliar area, it was dark, and i had someone tryin to give me directions.(all the truth) he dropped the points and reduced the fine.

the second one: i was doin 70 in a 45 it was a fluctuating speed zone didn't realize. went to court plead guilty. the judge asked if i realized i was on a parkway i said yes and he said will i speed on that road again i said no and he dismissed it.

my other two tickets are still pending.
