I've had my Tacoma for almost 4 years and have only gotten 1 ticket and 1 warning. I call it "the sh*t hot truck tax".

plead no contest. thats your best bet for getting your fines reduced. your not going to get out of the points without some sort of community service or defensive driving class...

personally ive had 4 speeding tickets in my life...2 of them got paid straight up (one was out of state and i couldnt get back to fight it) 1 i had no case (i had a radar detector...2 of them i went to court...talked to the trooper...and they both reduced the charge to minimum and i paid the fine and took the minimum points and left

When im on the other side of the fence...if ive stopped someone and given them a ticket...and theyve been polite and upfront with me...and come to court and ask for help...i usually give it to them...if i didnt already drop the charge down when i wrote the ticket

If you dont have a good case for not guilty dont plead not guilty because you'll end up looking like a jackass in court AND have the same fine/points

Go to court...speak with the officer BEFORE trial...and see if he can help you out any in exchange for a guilty plea...

Oh...and wear nice clothes and be polite when you go :)

not really they only know about two. figured it was best for everyone. but they'd probably look at it like its my fault and my responsibility which i understand. and they don't hate you just disappointed.

See that what sucked. He didn't even give me a chance to explain. The only things he said was what I got pulled over for. Asked for license and registration and then walked back to his car. When he came back he said you are being written up for $185 and 3 points, a little bit more bullshit and then walked back to his car. Never let me say a word.

socol - a little info for you:

most speeding tickets are only 1 point - you can go to traffic school and get it off your record, and your insurance wont go up.

If you were doing over 100, or something reckless then it's a 2 point violation. There's no such thing as a 3 point driving violation in CA

Also, if you don't go to traffic school - your insurance shouldn't increase TOO much. You're already NOT getting the good driver discount because you haven't been driving for 3 years..

he's not required to let you explain roadside

    thats what court is for

    i do that a LOT

people will try to argue with me and give me all kinds of reasons and excuses...i just stop them and tell them if they care to talk more then the court date is ______ at 09:00

If you HONESTLY think you had a good reason to be going the speed (and theres not many) then by all means plead not guilty and fight it

If you were just speeding along and got caught or just happened to not see the sign...then first try asking the officer before court for some sort of reduction deal...if that doesnt work plead guilty in court and just explain to the judge that you were in the wrong and you've never gotten a ticket and this and that (maybe even take your driving record into court for evidence) and see if he'll help you out

Well it says 3 points on the ticket. Might be because I was doing it right outside the naval academy and it's a federal ticket not county.

in sc its 2, 4, 6 and so on up to an automatic suspension of license (which also occurs at the accumulation of 12 points)

a 2 point ticket will not affect your insurance...but 3 points and up does

also in sc...officers and judges cannot change the amount of points assigned with a particular charge...if they want to adjust how many points youre getting they have to change the charge

DMV is the only entity in SC that can change point values per charge

The DMV is the DMV. They run the point system. DUI's, hit & run's, reckless driving violations, and accidents w/ bodily injury are 2 points. All other minor moving violations are 1 point.

i COULD be wrong here, but within the last 5 years of looking at driving records, i've never seen anything with 3 points.

Okay. Thanks tiger. So I guess I will plead guilty and just say that I have never gotten a ticket before and that I didn't know that speed limit. (Which is the truth)

That sound like an okay plan?

Also tiger is there anything special about me getting a United States District Court Violation.

At the top of the ticket it says... United States District Court Violation Notice.

Is there anything that I should know about this sort of ticket over a regular county ticket.

i would throw in a little more apology...because unfortunately...not knowing the speed limit is no excuse...

just apologize...say that youve never gotten a speeding ticket before...and you'd really like some help etc

it's a minor violation then - it will be 1 point according to the DMV. Chances are you are not going to get out of it - pay the fine, do traffic school, and you're in the clear, and your insurance won't go up. Just don't get another one within 18 months (i think 18) because they don't let you do traffic school for the 2nd ticket that close together

you know what, I retract everything I just said. for some stupid reason I thought you were in CA. I associated the "socol" with socal"

this info pertains to CA only, it may be incorrect for MD
