I just bought a new to me 07 trd DC with 37K miles(no lift or mods) on it and everytime I accelerate from a dead stop there is this momentary vibration that happens somewhere between 0 and 10 mph....then goes away. I only notice it at this time and it feels like you hit a rumble strip but with no steering wheel shake. It only happens for a second or 2 from a stop and not at any other speed. Truck is perfect other than this which is more annoying than anything else.

Dealer said it was normal and to get used to it...I just thought I'd check with you guys to see if you had heard anything?

    Thanks,

Extremely common complaint and usually gets worse when lifted. Mine's done it since I purchased it used at 40K miles. After reading all the hell that other's have gone through trying to get rid of it I decided to live with it.

I thought axle wrap was more of an outcome of 'froading and beating on the truck? could be wrong tho.

It's just the way the axle / leaf pack / drive shaft packs reacts to the torque when taking off from a stand still. Mine has done it since day one, and didn't get any better / worse with the lift or subsequent wheeling. Only way to make it any better (as I understand it) is to get a one piece DS instead of the two piece.

Check your leaf springs to see if they are looooose or broken.
might help as they are known to come off the production line finger

I've taken mine off and reinstalled a couple of times. (factory non TSB, factory TSB, and OME Dakar) Torqued to 73 lb ft on all 8 nuts. Still does it. Not saying there's not instances where they're not tight, but mine have done it since go, and are installed correctly. Leaf hanger bolts are torqued to spec as well. It's just something these trucks do.

The pinion angle changes slightly enough to put the u-joints in the drive shaft slightly out of phase, and the carrier bearing vibrates a little. It's totally normal. Nothing to be alarmed about. Read up on drive shaft angle and u-joint phasing if you want to learn more.

"Since the rear pinion moves up under acceleration (unless you have anti-wrap control on the axle) ideally you set up the static pinion angle to be 1-2° below the transfer case output flange angle." (Note... our trucks it would be the mid-shaft u-joint directly behind the carrier bearing since it's a 2 piece DS.

My takeoff shudder was cured completely with a 1" carrier bearing drop. This is a driveline angle problem for most people.

Its an auto tranny. Problem diminishes if not goes away entirely when popped in 4H....maybe the front diff bearing issue? I'll have to test more on that. But no vibration at any other speed as I understand that bearing issue creates more vibration at other speeds....?

Ujoints are perfect. Takeoff shudder is a great way to describe it...

This truck sat in a garage for 3 years unused...the underside of the truck looks like it just came off the showroom...immaculate.

    Still searching...

Was reading about dropping the carrier bearing...gonna try that. But some say 3/8 thick, 1/4 thick, then 1" drop....

with no lift stock trd what is safest? Maybe shoot for the middle with the 1/4?

Get some washers and start shimming.

when you put it in 4wd you are splitting the engine torque between the front and rear differentials. So there isn't as much load on the rear driveshaft. That's why it diminishes. It's got something to do with the rear driveshaft's sloppy center bearing mount and the truck's soft rear springs. Lot's of stuff moving around back there and causing a momentary bind.

I hope you get it figured out. I'd love for mine to not have this problem, but I have yet to rear about anyone actually breaking something. Until then, I've decided not to invest the time into it.

same problem. figured it was due to the 6inch lift tho. added a bud built bar which didn't help at all

So I added about 1/2" worth of washers to see if a bearing drop would be worth it. It seems to help--not eliminate--but the ride def seems smoother everywhere else and the shudder is a little less noticeable. I think I'll push it a little more and see how she responds. Running out of bolt length/decent engagement to feel comfortable though.

One thing I noticed is that the shudder wasnt there taking off into a turn (pre-washers)...not sure if that points to front end. I'd hate to start tossing parts into it...

Anyone know the thread pitch of the carrier bolts off the top of their heads?

    10mm x1.25 fine pitch thread.

You will need 40mm bolt for half inch drop, 50mm for 1", more for more.

The 1/2 shim on stock def helps. Still there but i dont notice it as much---perhaps eventually i wont notice it at all....

was reading about the 1 piece driveshaft...might be a good idea. anyway, 0-7 mph vibration i feel is def from the carrier bearing. thanks for the help!
