    $1300 for 1000 sqft 3rd floor condo, 2 bed, 2 bath

the property tax exemption for churches and other FOR PROFIT organizations means they are not paying for the essential public services; schools, fire departments, police stations, and road maintenance. the exemption effectively raises everyone else's property tax to cover public services, thus making EVERY property owner poorer.

    yep, me too...

I'm also stuck covering a portion of for profit organizations property tax liabilities to provide the community with the basic needs of society.

LOL. Sassy sassy please bro stop already. I get embarrassed for you when you write posts like these (from my holier than thou attitude).

First you post Bill Gates is the one atheist you admire for his good deeds while being asked to make a list of great atheist countries and governments. I tell you he is deist, not an atheist and now your going to post a link to 'skeptical.org' regarding the founding fathers lol. You think those paragraphs tell the ENTIRE story of those presidents relationships to church and religion, how their politics were influenced and they ways they governed? Scolars debate these points in massive detail, but you're so smart you got it all summarized on skeptical.org lol. It's a lot like OZ cutting and pasting a yahoo post as his answer to a question that didn't even get answered lol.

Seriously though, I just want give you a cookie and send you back to play tittly winks.

Do you even understand how the Americas were colonized and by which groups, how the US was formed, or why the War of Independence took place? (give you a hint, has a lot to do with religious freedom for all, including atheists - although you keep missing this correlation or at least unwilling to acknowledge it, and a disdain for taxation (again ironic in relationship to this very topic).

Do you have any idea what life was like for 99.9% of the population on the planet pre 1776? I would love to go back and talk to your very ancestors and find out your personal lines history, I bet they'd be ashamed of you (just my opinion). Do you understand the controlling factors of the ruling families of Europe (and yes their use of church and religion to control) and just about every other country at the time, the laws of land ownership, taxation, government by birthright, or any of these sorts of concepts at all in history from a truly knowledgeable point of view (simply as documented history?).

I know you have an agenda as a bitter apostate as was made clear by every post you made early in this thread and by your own Atheistic announcement. But please don't try to associate yourself with Deists now that you learned what one is. Atheism has as much to do with Deism as you have to do with knowledge on history...please, I humbly implore you to please educate yourself a little more.

Don't bother explaining the purpose of non profits to some of these guys dude, it just doesn't resonate with them at all.

They'd rather see a program funded by donations for the research of cancer, shelters for people who don't have a warm place to sleep or a bowl of food once a day, groups like Amnesty International who fights for things like freedom from religious persecution that goes on around the world to this very day (including protecting atheists), all pay the monies they get donated (or as some of them call 'earned') to the government because the government does such a terrific job with the money they do receive from taxes...I hope none of them or their loved ones ever need any of these services in the future.

well said. a better way to describe my "lack of belief" system would be agnostic atheist.
I'm not against any of the religions, just not for me. IMO god is a coping mechanism conceived as an explanation of the unknown.

You're right. Taxing churches might (just might) lower your property taxes. So will taxing a long list of other non-profit and charitable organizations - the American Civil Liberties Union, National Organization of Woman, Sierra Club, Amnesty International, Red Cross, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, International Atomic Energy Agency, American Diabetes Association, American Cancer Society, Johns Hopkins Hospital, St Jude Children's Research Hospital, Shriners Hospitals for Children, the Mayo Clinic, and so on.

However, you're not ranting about the tax exemptions of all those organizations, so lowering taxes is obviously not your true goal. You're just using that as a means of attacking and undermining churches.

I clearly stated FOR PROFIT organizations, which the vast majority of churches are.

if they can afford to build multi million dollar clubhouses, they can afford to pay property tax on it.

Property taxes would have to go up if there weren't private schools, and parents willing to pay property tax for public schools and additional tuition to catholic schools, etc.

10% of students go to private schools. They pay twice. The church collection plate helps bring down that cost.

    I have given it up.

And have no desire to preach to non believers...especially on the issue of charitable giving and taxes concerning churches. the off topic tax conversations here were more enlightining and enjoyable (I learned something!)

the one above I just had to address.

non believers always look for what they percieve a chink in the armour...weather it's taxes...priest molestation...mega buildings...etc. AND, they usually are militant in their approach. It IS the walll they build becuse they do not want to even look at the possibility of a higher power, and the judgement that comes from it within.

btw, many (believers & especially non believers) don't realize that church is only a conduit...a teaching tool...and has very little to do with ones personal relationship with God and ones place in heaven.

one can attend church 7 days a week...give every dollar they have...know scripture word for word...and never see the glory in their lives God has promised them. AND, may never see heaven.

me...I work on my faith everyday, attend a non-denominational place of worship, usually on Sunday morning (but we also sometimes go to the Saturday evening service)...love the contemporary Christian music...dig the preacher(s)...enjoy fellowship...make friends...learn and have fun.

It makes me a better man. And I look forward to it!

I don't get your fixation on this list of countries formed on Atheist beliefs .

My list of non-religious charities was an example to counter your suggestions that only churches help the needy

so the church collection plate helps the wealthy educate their children while contributing nothing to the education of 90% of students.
in 2008-09 the median tuition for private day schools was $17,441, median tuition for boarding schools was $37,017.
something tells me that people sending their children to private schools aren't exactly "poor" or "needy".

personally...I do not for a second believe only churches help the needy.

I do however believe private charities (including faith based) do a better job at it than government.

btw...I gota go work on the house, y'all keep it civil and don't get this thread locked...so this old man can come home tonite and enjoy more of your thoughts on this subject.

I love Jesus, he called me by a name i never knew and told me who i am. i feel sorry for those who despise him and it hurts to watch those who hide behind his name and use him to manipulate others to get their way. we are all human and imperfect, but one day i will know no pain or sorrow and i will joyfully sing praise to he who died for you and me.

The property taxes of those private school kids already pay for the public schools they aren't sending their kids to.

Most people sending there kids to catholic schools are not the wealthy.

Either way the they pay twice and reduce the load on public education.
