    Hey Guys,

I'm a newbie here but found this site to be really informative!

I am having a problem with my 2002 Toyota Tacoma 2.4L automatic. When the truck is first started in the morning, it runs fine until the engine temp reaches a normal level, then the truck stalls. I can tell it stalls because the speedometer drops to 0. The truck then starts right back up automatically and the speedo goes back up to current speed, sometimes the speedo bounces up and down. It also tends to stall at stop lights. The truck always fires back up, but sputters when accelerating for a bit, then smoothes out.

I first cleaned the IAC valve with carb cleaner, same problem.

I then replaced the Idle Air Control valve for a new one, put in a new Throttle Position sensor, changed the fuel filter.

I thought this fixed my problem as the truck started right up and ran good for about 5 minutes. Then as soon as the truck got warm again, it stalled at a stop light. It then sputtered and continued to stall until I could make it home.

    Any ideas??

I had a similar problem on my V-6 and resolved it by cleaning the MAF sensor.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
I'd clean the MAF too. Make sure you use MAF cleaner and disconnect the sensor.

    Any codes?

please clarify, does your SPEEDOMETER go to zero when it stalls, as you indicated, or the tachometer? when it stalls, does it stumble, and the tachometer fades, or does it die like turning off the key?

The speedometer goes to zero, the truck does not have a tach. Say I'm on the highway going 65, the speedo reads 65 then the truck dies, speedo drops to zero. As I slow down, the engine starts back up automatically and the speedo jumps back up to whatever speed I'm going.

So an automatci transmission truck dies, speedometer goes instantly to zero, then as you coast down in speed it starts back up on its own??

Um, I would consider contacting the local Catholic church and request an exorcist. any automatic truck that actually starts ITSELF up on a coast down has to be possessed.

X2 This can't be right...? Maybe it dies down, close to dying, and then catches itself right before and revs back up to norm??? I bet you've never had your throttle body serviced before... If so, I'd get my throttle body cleaned along with the MAF Sensor as stated previously.

Ok i just did the mass airflow sensor test and the truck quits when i unplug it so from what i take from that is that its not the mass airflow sensor. Another thing is that it only stalls when the engine is warm and i go to rev it up. It Spits and studders and then stalls
