Hmm... Maybe I need to check into this again, thanks.

A big work truck threw a HUGE something or other into my friend's windshield. She chased after him, pulled in front of him and let the driver know what happened. He reported to his boss, and the company replaced her windshield. Not sure if that was through insurance or they just paid it out since it was considered cheap to the company.

    Do you have mudflaps on?

Truck is covered by State Farm but we haven't called them yet. And the truck does have mud flaps

Tacoma's new glass sucks, there are lots of topics on TW about it.

I had 2 other Tacoma's and put well over 300k miles on them, never had a crack, ever. Got one in my 09 in no time.

The good thing, for me, was that I was working in FL when it happened. I ended up getting the chip fixed free at Safelight (deductible waves in FL but not in CA). Nice guys, cleaned all my windows after and cleaned my floormats too, was in and out in about 45 minutes or so. You can barely see the repair job and I would probably not notice if I didn't know about the chip originally.

Hazard of driving. Unless stuff is falling off a vehicle, tough shit. Time for new glass or run it like it is.

Work truck took a rock today, pulverized the glass where it hit, fucked it all up. Time for epoxy, fortunately it's below the wiper. Fucking semi trucks, but what are you going to do? Isn't the first, won't be the last. Just a hazard of driving.

Tacoma took a rock from a dually a couple years back, I was pissed at the guy, not really his fault though. What are you going to do... suck it up and deal with it. Or in my case I run it as is.

Safelite and Speedyglass IIRC are only a few hundred for a windshield.

Check your state laws but chances are if it came off the road you can't be held liable, if it falls from your truck (like your load) then you could be. Also check flap and flare laws as well.

Living in Fl we have a lot of palm trees.... was driving with a dresser in the bed and... BAMMM... coconut fell from a palm tree, thankfully didn't come through the windshield. Almost did, hit just under the rear view mirror, completely and totally distroyed the windshield, came to a screeching stop, had to wipe glass off of me and everything else, put on my sun glasses because the glass kept splintering off. Sounded like a cannon went off in the cab, thought I had hit something I didn't see. Free replacement, but man, that was scary. Think of the stupid crazy timing it took for me to drive under that tree just at the right moment.

It's State law in some states - they are not allowed to count it against you. I have had mine replaced several times - just a phone call, give your information, and they come replace it at your work or home - no deductible, no penalties.
However, not all states have it - I have been going through this with some of our company vehicles registered in other states, and same insurance company will refuse it in other states because they are not legally obligated to do it.

Haha, yes, I know about those. Did the insurance pay to get your underwear cleaned also? It's scary to just drive along minding your own business and have that happen.

All auto glass is fragile. No regular auto glass is going to stand up to a rock etc... at 55 MPH.

Nahh... Comprehensive (fire, theft, vandalism, glass breakage), as well as not-at-fault collision (even if your carrier pays out on UIM) do not count.

In the event of a not-at-fault, you definitely want to get a letter indicating that status on the claim. When I changed insurance companies the new carrier wanted proof that my UIM claim was not my fault, and I played hell getting the documentation out of the previous company.

Depends on your state and carrier.

AAA used to cover at no charge if the glass could be repaired without replacing the gasket (meaning they'd cover epoxy repairs).
They stopped that about 10 years ago and the regular deductible on your comprehensive applies.
I've got a $500 deductible, so even if I did submit a claim, I'd only get a check for $100 or so.

no need for police if you did not see someone hit a golf ball at you're truck they wont do any thing for you and more then likely not take the report at all just bite the bullet and call around safelight is good place to start or a little mom and pop kinda place.

zero insurance deductable on windsheilds in Florida.

however, replacement is very important because on most new vehicles the windsheild is part of the structual intergeity of the cab.

some do it great...some do not. few can do it as well as the factory.
