    No.

Tacoma forum with an off topic section.
The M4/M16 fit just fine in the AR15 thread, given that most people either can't legally get, or can't afford to get a true transferable M4/M16.

Can't just walk into Cabelas and buy one even in Texas.

    Select fire or semi auto?

I'm pretty sure that's just a regular AR.

If I'm not mistaken, m4 are select fire and Have a barrel that is 14.5 inches long.

It's semi auto. It could be select fire, but we wouldn't even own it and we stay legal. Haha. The step down from this model has a 14.5" barrel.

    Uhh... No.
The lower receiver for the select-fire model is machined differently and has an auto-seer.
It is a felony to even be in possession of the PARTS without having the proper BATFE license.

And the 14.5" barrel is not a "step down"
    The M4 has a 14.5" barrel.
    The M16 has a 20" barrel.

Anything else is not an M4 or M16.
You might have M4 feedramps on the receiver and barrel extension, but that doesn't make it an M4 (and they are not needed for semi-auto).

Yes officially they have ended the life of the M6A3 in favor of the A5.

Not all lowers are machined differently. Two of the lowers I know for sure that can take an auto sear are some from Spikes and all of LWRCI's. They have a low shelf and I believe that leaves them open for auto sears. Now my neighbor's colt has the auto sear area filled in and would require machining to accept an RDIAS. Of course I could be wrong because I don't claim to know anything for certain. My understanding is it all depends on which major lower manufacturer you use as to what you get. all the lowers I have that have a low shelf have a key hole stamped on it.

Even with the low shelf, there's the "happy hole" that had damned well better be missing, and I'm not aware of any 80% jigs that have it.

BATFE always seems to be a moving target in what they will permit. Just like with 80% lowers. For a long time, you couldn't even have the magwell machined out.
Then everything could be machined except the FCG pocket and the FCG pin holes.
As of early 2011, the selector hole could not be drilled... so an 80% lower is "not a firearm" with the entire magazine area completed, both takedown pin areas complete, and the grip fitting drilled and tapped... but NO drilling or machining through the FCG pocket.
I picked up an 80% in 2010 and the selector hole was drilled.
BATFE allows the manufacturers to sell remaining stock though... it's really stupid.

Now to my understanding its legal if the lower has the option to accept auto fire parts, you just can't put any into it without the proper permits? The reason I ask is because I have a spikes lower and believe it can accept the auto trigger.

The serialized auto seer is the actual registered part, but you must not be in possession of ANY of the automatic parts from the FCG including the disconnector, hammer, selector, and trigger (or of course, auto-seer).

Also, the receiver must not have the hole for the mounting pin for the seer.
Even with the lower machined shelf, you should not have an unused hole through the FCG walls.

    http://www.ar15.com/content/legal/AR15-M16Parts/index.html

Now, if you have the lower shelf, you can install a DIAS/rDIAS in the receiver, and in that case, the DIAS is the serialized part (must be 1986 or older).
That takes your receiver into the nebulous "once a machine gun, always a machine gun" status.

I have used both M4A1/M16A3 in real fire fights. I'll be honest and say I can't distinguish the difference of what you are calling a "m4" and "m16" They are both built off of a M16 platform. The M4 uses a collapible stock and the M16 no collapisble stock. The barrel lengths are correct. Both fire a 5.56 round (not .223) since the 5.56 has a different casing. The AR platform is just versitile lower receiver based system adaptible to many other calibers.

Now in my case I have built a AR15 (M4) for just around $500 (below picture). I have a full auto capable BCG along with a full auto trigger group setting. Of course I am not going to make it full auto because I'm not going to pay the tax stamp. But it is always nice to have. Now if you want a "full auto" capable weapon and not pay for a stamp you can buy the $300 slide fire which utilizes bump fire technology www.slidefire.com

    Good thread btw.
