Since I have a SWB Tacoma I've always wanted to possibly do halo lights with HID lights in the headlights and the fog lights to create a big blue pain to see coming at night. Currently I have the original headlight assembly and ZXE bulbs. I'm very pleased with the current visibility since most of my driving is deer covered back roads. Do any of you have halos or HID's and if so how do they compare to the factory set up?

I picked them up from my local Advance Auto. They're Sylvania Silverstar ZXE. I saw them online for $40 on eBay. At Advance they were almost $60.... having said that, it was one of my friends last day there and I paid $42 out the door. Lol The worst part about them is getting people flashing their brights at you until you flash them with yours and you see a hand go up to block your lights.

I have some projectors like your talking about. They are black spyder halo projectors an the light output on the projector is horrible. Im running sylvania silverstars in them, and light output is still pretty bad. Now the high beam socket is not a projector, it has a reflector bowl with great output.

That being said i would recommend you doing the morimoto mini d2s or h1 retrofit to your stock housings, and you could even do the bhlm or ive seen what people call the blue headlight mod where they painted their housings speedway blue. Search up here for morimoto mini projector retrofit. Also check out theretrofitsource.com

    Stock for now.
Do a morimoto retrofit with your stock hHeadlamps. Then stick to white HIDs. OE color is 4300k but u can get away with 5000k. Provides the best light output in regular conditions.

Dont touch your fogs tho. White light tends to glare especially in fog. Yellow fogs help cut thru the fog.

Blue lighting is proven to provide worse light visibility in regular conditions compared to white. Thru are especially eye straining after a long period of time.

If you are talking about Halo lights like off of Ebay I havent heard good reviews on them. As for getting a true HID effect, an HID kit with your stock lights isnt that great and I know from personal experience. Only way to get the great output like all those expensive cars is to do a true retrofit conversion.

Don't do a retrofit, there is a reason they are not DOT legal.

Upgrade the factory bulbs. I visit my parents that live in the country all the time.
I feel the high beams on my Tacoma are pretty amazing.
Low beams are meant to me more dim and short range....
