What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Which ones are you planning on using/where are you buying them? I need a front brake job as well.

 

Ok everyone I am ready to do my 90k maintenance tomorrow morning and wanted to verify a few things. I'm a little concerned on the plugs and coolant I bought. I got "zerex Asian vehicle" coolant and ngk "laser iridium" plugs. Are these ok for my 2rz? They were what the guy at O'Reilly recommended but they're rightabout zero percent of the time. What do you guys think?

 

I used duralast gold for brakes n rotors from autozone

 

I used Peak Coolant..i don't think thats going to be a big deal. just use 50/50.

as for the plugs. They need to be dual ground i think for the 2rz like the 5vz but im not sure so someone will have to confirm that. And i think just normal plugs tend to run better in our trucks..

Dont use iridium plugs, at least not in the 5vz.

 

Coolant shouldn't matter, I've put the green pre-mixed stuff in my truck with no problems. As for the plugs, I've NEVER recommended parts store ones after my experience using Bosch +4's in my last truck. I won't bother with the details but please put stock plugs in it from the Toyota dealership.

to all you throttle body experts... have some questions for you.
I know the best way to get a good clean is to remove the throttle body and that's the plan but...
all the vacuum lines and hoses etc attached to the throttle body, can they be taken off and put back on post cleaning and have no issues?? or is there a trick/tips to all the lines/hoses?
any and all tips would help. thanks

 

Parents took my truck to the dealership without telling me, stuck with rental car this weekend. When I already knew what was wrong with it. Regardless to say not surprising. P0420 and P1135 codes verified again like I told them before. Quite an annoying day. And look at that price report pretty funny.

 

Replaced Clock Spring/Spiral Cable. Now I've got a working horn, working cruise control, and the airbag light is no longer illuminated!

Thanks, man! It wasn't something I really wanted to spend $223 on, but the Cruise Control is a pretty important piece to me! Good luck on the horn fix!

 

All I can say is I put Bosch Platinum +4's in my last truck, one of the electrodes broke off in the combustion chamber and was rattling around in there. Sounded like rod knock so I had the bottom end pulled apart and everything looked good down there. Turns out I got lucky and the chunk blew out of the exhaust valve and didn't wreck anything. Never again will I use a non-stock critical motor part, learned my lesson.

 

Thanks man, part of life. One thing after another. Just keeping a positive outlook on things. Maybe its a sign a need to upgrade to a TRD package! Im not big on the 2nd gens. 1st gen lover to the core. But if worst comes to past, probably upgrade to a single cab 05 2nd gen Tacoma. Hoping it wont come down to that though. Truck has been good to me, I mean lasted me 4 years great first vehicle. But she still has life left goddamit! Wont give up on her just yet.

 

Forgot I color matched my grill the other day. Working on seeing what it would cost to get my fender flares color matched too. Always been a fan of color matched flares
