that is a tough one. in my family off my dad's side, my grandpa had diabetes, lost his vision, and eventually got dementia. Everybody thought that grandma would outlast him. the last house they lived in together was 3 stories, but smartly, they downsized the land they were sitting on from the previous house. Grandma died from a massive heart attack leaving grandpa alone. they are about 300+ miles away, so a daily visit is not exactly feasible. At first, grandpa refused to move out of the house. he was one to not leave what is familiar to him, especially as his vision was going out from the diabetes. he rarely monitored the diabetes and kept it diet controlled. my uncle lives about 20 minutes away from grandpa, and was the only one in the family that was close by, so it obviously fell to him to check on grandpa the most. grandpa didn't want nurses coming into the house, because he also thought they were stealing from him, but my uncle didn't have enough time to check on him everyday. at first the nurse visits were weekly, but quickly progressed to nearly daily. the breaking point for getting grandpa out of the house was when he had a serious issue that doctors labelled as rapid onset dementia, which my parents later figured out was that the docs didn't really know what happened either. after some brief research, my stepmom found out that it was a particular type of eye drops that caused it, and those were immediately cut out. once grandpa was out of the house, he was never allowed to move back in alone. by this point, grandpa must have realized that he wouldn't be allowed to go back. he went through several assisted living homes before we found one that actually worked. one of the places let his diabetes get way out of control, others didn't provide the right care. finally the place that he was at up to the end had 2 sections that i saw. the first section was basically a bunch of small apartments that could be occupied either alone, or by a couple. the place required that patients be able to dress themselves, and get around on their own to live there. it was essentially supervised independent living. grandpa did pretty well in this for awhile but eventually real dementia kicked in and his vision went out entirely over several years. he became to dependent on others and my uncle was told he needed to be moved over to the other section of the place, which is where more care was given to the patients, as well as a greater degree of monitoring. grandpa lasted another year or 2 in that section, and died at the end of this past january.

Bobert got it right. you can't really get them to go until there is a major incident. about the best you can do for now is have everybody in the family nearby go out to visit them on a regular basis. we talked about moving my grandpa over to western WA from spokane, but while grandpa had the mental capacity, he always said no, and once that was gone, we didn't want to try to find a new place to take care of him since we were happy with the care he was receiving where he was at. our thoughts were that if we could get him over to this side of the state, we could run more family through seeing him more often since most of us live over here anyway.

Thanks guys for the input - looks like Dad didn't get much progress, the doc said they are still technically mentally capable, but they should have weekly visits to make sure medication is being administered properly. Since grandparents don't trust anyone to enter the house, that probably means Dad making weekly visits - a 40 minute round trip on top of his already heavy driving of 500 miles per week for work. Hooray.

I would go for a miller 135. It's a regular plug into a 110 outlet from your house and can weld a lot of crap. Turn it down for the thin stuff and crank it up and push your bead for the thick stuff. Up to about 3/16 at least. Try to find one with a cart and bottle. The gas bottle deposit can be close to 100 bucks at some places. Also check out the lead to the gun. If it has kinks in it it will be no good. I paid 400 for my setup and it rocks!

Lol that's an easy one. A simple tape measure will do. For mine i actually need angles/bends, and mounting points.
