i dropped a 5lb hammer on my finger on saturday and it started bleeding lightly so i ran up to the house and washed my finger and put on hydrogen peroxide on it and it was good. but today i noticed clear fluid coming out of where the skin is broken so i put hydrogen peroxide on it but it didn't bubble, so should i be worried about it?

Hydrogen peroxide causes tissue damage if the skin is broken
Simple tap water is fine to wash a wound.

If you are worried about infection then antibiotic topical ointment is an option.

That I know from experience :)

Hydrogen peroxide breaks down tissue, and alcohol actually kills the body's natural defense cells and makes you more prone to infection.

Use a topical antibiotic ointment like neosporin.

If it doesn't start healing within a couple of days to a week, or gets badly inflamed, you will be fine.

This is so true. We got dispatched one night to a sick call, patient having abdominal pains. When we walked into the house I noticed pot and crack sitting on a table, I called for the police. The patient was a having abdominal pains and all was very calm. All of a sudden her boy friend came running in screaming for us to get out of the house and started swing at us. Since there was four of us and one of him, I wasn't too worried about that, so we calmly left the house and notified dispatch of the situation. About a minute later, ten cops came racing up from all directions, surrounded the house with guns drawn, and proceeded to pull the boyfriend out of the house and cuff him. Come to find out, the house as a known crack house. Would have been nice to find that out before we got there.

    yup...

My current partner walked into an unsecured scene, pt got shot in the head (grazed him), they got the call for ukn. medical. They were on scene like 2 mins and 3 SWAT guys walked up armored out w/ their AR-15's ready to roll.

Good job dispatch!!! (the responding FD knew it was a shooting, it was lost in communication between the FD call center and our call center)

We should change the name of this thread to the Medic BS thread, or the EMS BS thread.

    Pretty much.

Had a nurse yesterday tell us that "Finally we're here" for a scheduled transfer.

'Scuze me bitch? What part of Emergency Medical services don't you get. We started at 0730. We got the call at 0750 and showed up at 0800. Why are you getting pissy with me. I just about stabbed her in the face with a brick.

We get that crap all the time!! Irritates the heck out of me.

Especially when it comes from ER's (who will remain nameless) that are usually really slow. 9/10 times there are three patients in the er and 2 are scheduled to be tranfered.

Yeah. No shit hey? It's like why do I even bother bringing people here. You're not going to treat them anyways. You're just going to take the spine board off. Decide they need to go for a CT in the city anyways and ask me to reboard them. YOU FUCKS!

As my partner said yesterday. It might as well say "You call We Haul" on the side of our truck.

haha, that would be how they would justify it.

As far as ER staffs here, they are pretty appreciative of us. They know they couldn't ever operate without us. The lvl 1 trauma center that we do most of our transfers out of, ORMC, gets us about 50-100 transfers a day.

But we have about 10 GT trucks on the road throughout the day, so we are usually there within 5-10 minutes of them calling. Plus I think our dispatch sets the bar low for us by saing it will be 20-30mins and we show up in 10. Makes us look like we are hauling ass...but in reality we are sitting behind Jimmy Johns scarfing down subs.
