I am not opposed to getting a couple uses out of them but I would like to make sure I have the correct ones.

IIRC the diffs all use the same one except one plug on the front diff uses a really big copper one.

The t-case I can't recall but I'd just match em up and then re-use what you have to.

    Changed oils today.

Front and rear diff I torqued to 36ft lbs is this okay?
I would just go torque them correctly but i had to borrow a torque wrench.

bilstein set at 1.75, Racho 5000 rear with 4 leaf kit, floor mats, high lift jack, pull hook in hitch, bed rail corner braces, severe duty brake pads and devil horns on the grill....
I was going to change all the gear boxes on the '11 access cab with transfer case and 6 speed LAST weekend, but I used up all the gearlube on the M37...so armed with a new 5 gallon bucket with a handpump that replaces the lid, (NAPA "premium performance" 80w-90, GL-5, a 24mm 6 pt, short 1/2" socket with 18" flexhead rachet (breaker bar with HEAVY duty rachet), 10mm hex driver on 3/8 square mount (bought a new fancy set last year that goes up to 12mm), and went to work...

I was expecting a good two hours, but got it done is 45 minutes (front axle, tranny, transfer case, I had done the rear end last week).

The cleanest box was the transfer case, transmission look OK, front grease looked like it needed changing, as did the rear end.

and...25k on the truck, and it is driven on dirt and gravel roads daily.

Now to get to the jeep next...that needs plugs and wires, all four driveline boxes changed, air filter, screw with LR parking brake...

I was going to run the Royal Purple 75W-90 in all three (front diff, transfer, and rear diff). Is that okay? My rear diff is not an LSD and I see that the Royal Purple Synthetic has the modifier in it. Didn't see that until three quarts added to diff :-( Do I need to drain those three quarts out and put something else in?

Thanks :) That's good to hear. Saves me a whole bunch of cussin' an bitchin' and kickin' myself in the arse for not following directions.

The rear diff oil was dirty but the transfer case looked sparkling new. I have 65k and this is the first change. Probably a bit late but then I don't do a lot of towing or any of the other "Plan B" activities requiring fluid changes. Did my plugs today too.

Tomorrow it's the front transfer case after I find one more quart of 75W-90 Royal Purple (store only had 5 Qts).

I did notice on my transfer case that there was some leaking oil on the passenger side in the rear. There is a 'cap' that has one bolt on it that appears to be the source of the leak. I am wondering what this is as I find it odd there to be a leak of oil already. But this looks like a weak point. Any ideas?

Clean it with brake clean and a rag and inspect periodically for source.

Pictures would help diagnose on this end.

Here is a pic of the site in question. I already partially cleaned off the area with an oily rag and some WD40 so you can't tell where the sludge was. The 'cap' I referred to is in the circled area. You can see the one bolt at the top. This part was the dirtiest, covered in a good coat of sludge that extended on down to the small bolt immediately below my text. The seal in the background with the orange RTV did not appear to be the source of the leak, this 'cap' did.

The LSD modifiers won't harm anything, the better GL5 oils used to all contain the additive since LSD chucks were sold as a premium option on a great many american cars, and almost a mandatory on muscle cars.

Next time see if you can get a case discount or a good price on a five gallon bucket. You can probably save at least 20% either way.

That's for an optional speed sensor. Not an option in your truck or you'd have it. :p

I'd get everything nice and clean and if you see oil seeping from there again, clean it up, pull that cap off and use some RTV ultra black or grey to seal it back up.

Edit: NVM I think there's an o-ring, not sure with the cover though. Bolt should be tightened to 8 ft lbs.

Yes I found out it is an output speed sensor port. There's a worm gear under there. I will check torque and monitor and if it continues to leak, I'll replace it or an O-ring if the cap has one. Thanks all for the assistance. :D

Ok, this is a stupid question I'm sure; but don't know the answer so I figured I would ask ya'll as the resident experts. Does a 2wd tacoma have a front & rear diff? Also since I have automatic LSD, I should use 75w-90 with LS additive? In the diffs and transfer case? Thanks guys!

quick question. I just took off my fill plug of my T-case and it was full but i noticed that it looks really clear like new, how does it suppose to look like that ???? ive had my truck for two years now and have put like 40-50k miles on it. its my first time doing it to my truck. is it suppose to look like that??? cause im used to looking at my engine and rear axle oil and it looks disgusting.
