It's actually easier to sas an 05+ truck than it is to sas the first gen. Don't have to worry about changing the oil pan and pick up and the frame kicks up higher in the front to accept the axle. The 2nd gen is a good platform you just need to use larger axles because they are so big and heavy.

Yor truck was my inspiration to do my SAS. Any tips you can give as far as parts go and what not? I wont argue that its harder, just seems there is less info on 05+ out there is all.

And the steering shaft doesn't shoot straight down like the 1st gens...

    THIS ^^^ :D

There is less information of course, just like there is less information about the 1st gens than there is for the toyota trucks, old school ones. It's going to be the same shit as the 1st gen just don't need to worry about a few small things as Wyatt stated. Everything else is pretty much the same.

Well I wont be able to go as pricey as his set up and wont have access to all the fabrication equipment and whatnot so its going to take me a good while to get it done. Read his entire build though.

    I love this thread
I figure in ten years or so I will end up doing the swap on my 06 after everything has failed on mine
I am still reading up so much on the subject and am nowhere near ready to pull the trigger.
As a plus, I can watch others do the trial and error.
    Keep up the good work
Props to the 1st gen sas and to the up and coming 2nd gens
    Awsumdc truck is sweet!
I still cant find picks of a blue one I saw a while back though

Found a set of axles. Hope they are still there when I call the guy to meet him for the pickup of both axles. Front and rear d44 out of a wagoneer.

Sweet. I would stick with the yota axle for the rear. Unless you don't have gears or lockers or anything special, than I suppose you could swap it too. It really isn't THAT much stronger than the taco rear.

Also, what year wagoneer? some of them have the vacuum front end, YOU don't want that....

I'm open diffs stock gearing in the rear so I may use both axles not sure yet. I'm not sure what year. The guy bought them only for the tires to put on his jeep. How would I tell if it has the vacuum front end and what's the issues with it?

Vacuum front end is ridiculous. Isn't as strong, takes more to upgrade it, has a weird ass differential and has a vacuum dc for the axle or some shit. I am not too familar with it.

Picture of it's uglieness (they made them from 82-84 [IMG]

I'm assuming that the big ugly thing sticking straight up is the vacuum? If so the pic I got from the guy looks nothing like that.

Good. It's pretty obvious if it's the vacuum axle. :D

I hope I can score these axles. That would be a big part out the way for me. Would it be better to get a kit or just piece it all together?
