Why did it take me so long?

...because I got really tired of paying the repair bills!

Hi everyone. I'm 46 years young and have finally made the decision to buy a new vehicle. My upbringing has always told me to buy used American made vehicles and just do that for the rest of my life because once you drive a new car off the lot, it depreciates at an incredible rate and your not doing the American economy any good if you buy foreign made. Well, I defied my well intentioned past and bought my new Taco about three months ago with only 5 miles on the odometer.


It drives really great and I have no issues with it except it lacks a few minor things like heated side mirrors and under dash courtesy lamps. (us older folks like the extra lighting, lol)


Hope to cya all online and perhaps chat a bit about the mods that you can do with the Tacos. I'm excited about things like HALO rings for the fogs and the new TRD Super Charger. I've been reading up on the forums for the last few days so I'm sorta up to speed on TW.

You read me like a book mvega, how did u know I was (note: WAS) a GMC guy? However, not all GMC's did. I must be behind the times because both my '85 GMC S15 Sierra Classic P/U that I bought in 1990 and my '96 GMC Jimmy that I bought in 2000 (which I still own), neither one had those lights.

Really cool pick though. Nicely outfitted, hopefully they can be used someday to show off something like a new TRD Super Charger at night (wishful thinking, I know!)

Maybe I'm just too ancient.

 

it's been 2 hours since my last post, it just hit me...

The reason GM added those lights on newer models is because they knew the owners would need them often, and not for showing off!

I'm on my 3rd Toyota P/U, like my intro says. I hope they still make em like they use to.

19 yrs 4 my 1st toy p/u.

7 yrs 4 my 2nd 219,000 mi, got my 3rd last Dec a 2wd Taco Xtracab 5spd 2.4l w/85,000 mi on it.

I was thinking the same thing....a new Toyota shouldn't need lighting in engine bay (knock on wood).

But actually - adding hood struts is a MUST. I must admit - you gotta get in there and look around once in a while to make sure everything is still in place.

I would like some under dash lights too. I like the ones on my ole 91 chevy 4x4, and it has the under hood mercury switch light too. I think I will slip it over to the Tacoma.

 

I will recommend this mode, it will be there once you need it and is pretty simple to install... No push pin for the hood, no earth cable (if desired) only a direct cable to the light (and if desired an in-line fuse between them).
